About
Hop aboard our workboat and we will take you and your group of oyster lovers on a private oyster tasting tour of our farm! We'll first visit the nursery where you can witness the baby oysters feasting away in our floating upweller. Next stop is the grow out site, just up the river. Land-lovers not to worry; we're always a stone's throw from shore! Each guest gets 6 complimentary oysters!

I've done oyster farm tours before - but they've never put me on a boat and actually took me out to the oysters before! This was a great 'up close' experience. Abigail has a fascinating story and it was a joy to spend a few hours with her learning about how she got started and how the company is progressing. AND - the oysters were delicious!

Wow! That'd be my review if I had just one word to sum up our experience with the Nonesuch Oyster company.

My wife and I visited Maine specifically to tour an aqua farm and experience the taste of Maine oysters just plucked from the waters in which their grown. Our captain and guide, Abigail Carroll, owner and a pioneer in the oyster farming industry, was so passionate and knowledgable of the oyster farming process.

There are so many great things to say about the tour, but what I'll remember most was the feeling of being a part of the whole experience. We started by touring the nursery where infant oysters known as spat grow in upwellers (aquatic crates). We got off the boat and Abigail actually scooped up a net full of spat for us to inspect and touch!

Next we boated through the estuary, where the oysters will grow to maturity. An estuary is one of the most prolifically vibrant ecosystems in the world. It's in a nature preserve surrounded by pristine waterways and marsh. It is home to not only the Nonesuch oyster, but to interesting creatures like otters, and endangered and protected wildlife like the piping plover and the shortnose sturgeon. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen!

The oysters grow in bags close to the unspoiled shoreline, either floating on the surface of the river or on the bottom. An oyster's taste, much like wine, is highly influenced by the environment in which it's grown. Thus, Abigail's oyster tasted sweet and succulent, with a refreshingly salty, mineral finish. Eating them right out of the river may have spoiled me for the rest of my life. Which is a good thing!

Nothing fancy - but the real deal. Our guide, captain and oyster shucker is a fisherman who explained extremely well both how oysters are farmed and how to shuck and eat then. Beautiful experience my kids (even one who doesn’t eat oysters) loved it. Don’t miss this

Great experience on a beautiful sunny Maine day! My boyfriend loves oysters, so I booked this tour for us even though I have always avoided them. It was a fun, educational, laid back boat ride with 4 other guests that we enjoyed getting to know. Plenty of time to ask Abigail anything we wanted about the farm, her background, and the ups and downs of starting a small business in an up-and-coming industry. I was enjoying myself so much that I even tried a few oysters! Highly recommend the tour, obviously to any oyster fans, but also to their non-oyster-loving friends.

My college friends went along with me and my husband on an oyster tour with Abigail. It was fabulous! Abigail was so kind to fit us in on a busy weekend, and we enjoyed every minute. From the fascinating and informative briefing on farming (she's a great presenter/speaker), to being out on the boat and seeing it all in action, every minute was great fun.

I live in the area and had never been up the river, so especially appreciated seeing my local area from a new perspective.

The oysters were absolutely delicious -- nothing like fresh out of the water. Even our non-oyster-eating friend had a great time.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Nonesuch oysters was wonderful. Not only was Abigail (the owner) charming and warm, but her and her team were informative and fun. The trip consists of going out to where the baby oysters are raised in the nursery, and then going out via boat further onto the river to see where they grow to their full size. From there, you pluck some oysters out of the water and eat them right on the boat! Not only were the oysters delicious, but we got to learn how to shuck oysters as well! The tour was educational, interesting, and really unique. This was a great way to spend a morning in Maine and I'm so glad we got a chance to experience it!

Very enlightening tour of oyster farm. Met Ed at the pier for a short trip to farming area, We learned to shuck oysters using the wiggle, wiggle, pop instruction---easy to remember. Ed was friendly, interesting and answered many questions. We tried the Abigail pearls. Wish we could have tried others to compare but we were early in the growing season. Highly recommend!

Freshest oysters you can get!
They take you out in a boat to the oyster beds, give a bit of education on oyster life cycle etc. Then they pull oysters right out of the water and serve them to you. They also show you how to shuck them if you like.Great family thing.

My wife had read about this place and wanted to try fresh oysters. We went to pick up a dozen and brought them back for her dinner. The verdict was that they were excellent with a salty taste. They also sell other kind of seafood if oysters are not your cup of tea.
