With 35,000 square feet of great products spread over three floors in our Rockport, Maine location and even more gear in our satellite store in Camden, Maine, Maine Sport Outfitters offers something for everyone. We facilitate guided trips and tours both on land and on water and offer a wide variety of professional development courses, such as Maine Guide training and team building workshops. Maine Sport Outfitters also oversees the Maine Island Lodge on Muscongus Bay. This westerly facing lodge has access to some of the best paddling on the coast and has all the amenities to make your island experience a memorable one. This “off-the-grid” island lodge comes complete with accommodations for up to 12 guests, bedding, meals, hot showers and significant shore frontage for exploring.

My husband and I chose the Camden Harbor tour hoping for scenery and some exercise. What a great way to do both. Our tour guide was Cameron. He clearly and thoroughly Went over all these safety and kayak instruction without making it half the tour. We were concerned that the safety and kayak instruction would take up half the tour as another reviewer said as much, but that was absolutely NOT the case. We still had plenty of time on the water. Cameron was the perfect guide for us. He was laid back, yet watchful of his tourists and mindful of nature. It was nice to be out there with such a knowledgeable guide and not have to worry about boat traffic or where to go. He had it all under relaxing control. We were lucky enough to see a harbor seal as well as a majestic bald eagle! The landscape is just beautiful. Setting up the tour was a breeze. We did it all on the phone and online. We can’t recommend this tour enough and Cameron is the man.
We like it so much we went back and rented lake kayaks on the lake. Again, easy set up, they helped us to put the equipment on the car and we were off. We didn’t feel the need for a guide in the Lake. We didn’t see any out there either. No need. I will say that we rented the kayaks last minute so we had no choice but to rent the tandem ocean kayak. Just know that if that is what you are renting they are heavy to get up in your roof. I recommend putting it on your car when you rent it without their help to make sure you can do it when you’re out on your own. Excellent place to do all of the above.

We rented a canoe from this location and had a great experience. They helped us put the canoe on the car and make sure it was well tied down. They also suggested some good spots to paddle and we had a great time. The canoe was perfect for what we wanted it for and was very reasonably priced. We rented it for 24 hours and were able to go paddling twice. We will be back to rent from here again next time we are in the area. We also bought a couple items and were very happy with our purchases. They have a great selection and a good clearance section.

Amazing people, good products, so so selection...
I wish they would sell more interesting brands of gear. Some European or international brands for ski gear like Bogner, Obermeyer, Canada Goose, Nobis or Goldberg would be really great.
Much of their inventory is the same as what is sold in Freeport and it is a lot cheaper in Freeport.
Did I mention the people are awesome? Bike shop has the greatest ... even if there's a mix up they fix it quick.

For a beginner's level with kayaking, I thought that the experience could've gone a little more swiftly. It was a beautiful view overlooking the Bay and the lighthouse with all the boats around it. However, I didn't like how the docking area was small and by a bunch of boats both big and small that you had to manuever and make sure you were not going to get hit! The tour guide Bill was very friendly and tried to have everyone keep up but I think it would've been nice having a second guide to help you along when the waves were really picking up by the lighthouse area. I love kayaking but I think is better in calm waters vs. a Bay or ocean with a lot of waves. It wasn't a very relaxing experience but more of a workout.
Also it would be nice if it was more clear where the docking area was as it's confusing thinking it's at the store vs. at the Camden Harbor.

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Took kayaks to a nearby lake at their recommendation. Just a gorgeous paddle, despite the fog and mist. They had everything to put the kayaks on the car and helped us get them loaded. Would definitely rent from them again.

Our first time ocean kayaking with Maine Sport Outfitters and it was very enjoyable. We did the harbor kayak excursion in Camden. The sea was calm and the weather was beautiful. Our two guides were pleasant, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. MSO is a well organized outfit and we did not experience any problems. Of course, the highlight was posing by the lighthouse for photos. Highly recommend and no kayak experience is required.

Five stars from beginning to end. Easy to make a reservation, file consent form, check-in at the dock, suit-up and launch. The trip through Camden harbor and around the island and lighthouse is wonderful. No better way to view Camden and the surrounding hills. Our guide, Hannah, exceptional! She's knowledgeable, experienced, and went out of her way to assist everyone and ensure a safe trip.... delightfully engaging and friendly throughout the entire time. Highly recommended, no better way to enjoy a sunny afternoon,

Kayak rental was a breeze. The staff member even helped me troubleshoot how I could get the kayak back up on the car at the end of my paddle since I wasn't so sure I could do it without him. They have SO MANY THINGS in their store. I honestly could spend hours there looking and salivating over the equipment. Would definitely recommend!

We used Maine sports for several kayaking trips. We kayaked with their trip in Camden harbor. We rented kayaks from them and kayaked in Rockport harbor and we used the kayaks to stay for a fabulous overnight in Gay Island Inn. That Inn was so magical that I will give it another review. All the kayaking was gorgeous and the people were wonderful to deal with

In Camden Harbor, Maine Sports has a Kiosk Umbrella Stand, with information for 2 hr Tours in Double Sea Kayaks. Our problem was...we wanted to let our Granddarlin go Kayaking, but we were unfit to take her, and didn't want her by herself. Krissy, was our Heroine!!!! We asked if it was possible for her to be added to another party...or with the guide. Several days, with several missed opportunities occurred, until she found a off-duty instructor willing to go with our lass. Thank you, thank you...both.
I believe this trip to Maine was a priceless opportunity for our granddaughter to experience opportunities she could not find at home....and Kayaking could be a life-long passion, that just needed to be kick-started. I was willing to finance this opportunity, but not able to accompany, nor instruct her of this sport....and so thankful Krissy and staff at Maine Sport Outfitters gave us this amazing experience.
