A great bike shop
Jul 2018 • Couples
We have bought bikes and had others serviced at Sidecountry Sports. It is a terrific place with very knowledgeable and helpful staff. They are great folks and do an excellent job. They also are a great resource in suggesting places to ride. We also recommend them for any bicycle rentals by the day or week. You truly feel like you are appreciated as a customer by a group that wants you to be outfitted for a fun and rewarding experience.

Top notch service

Rented bikes for a week. The bikes were in great condition. Staff was super-friendly, helpful, & had spot-on advice about where to ride. Large shop. Note: in this part of Maine road shoulders are rare and drivers can seem sort of flummoxed by bikes on the road; nevertheless, biking on North Haven and Vinalhaven is quite pleasant (some gravel roads -- not for road bike tires) & there's some good mountain biking around Rockland.

Don't know why there are so few reviews of this great shop

I second everything that was said by the previous poster. This is a great bike shop with knowledgeable and caring staff. Reserve in advance especially if you need a smaller bike . These are limited in supply. We rented 5 bikes from them and all were in very good condition.
Loved the bike shop but have to say that biking in and around Rockland was a little disappointing. Roads are narrow, most are two lane only, shoulders very narrow and in poor repair. There were no designated bike lanes along our route which took us to Owl's Head and the St. George Peninsula. We had to share the road with quite a few large trucks, more traffic than we thought we'd see quite honestly and with no shoulder to count on it was a little scary at times. The St. George Peninsula is very sparsely populated up around Owl's Head. No stores, no restrooms. Bring lots of water as there is nowhere to fill up.
I'm sure there is good biking to be had in this mid coast region of Maine region, but we did not find it around Rockland.

Best Bike shop in the area
Jul 2015 • Couples
I have spent a lot of time in bikes shops around the country and I highly recommend Sidecountry sports. We rented bikes from them on three different days for riding on the Maine coast and for day trips to North Haven and Vinal Haven islands. The whole team is very knowledgable about both their bikes and the local areas for riding. Their equipment was in great shape and the were very accommodating to us, even letting us show up before opening time so we could make the ferry. Finding a good LBS (Local Bike Shop) while in vacation can be hard. These guys are great. They also convert to a ski shop in the winter for the locals.
