Quill Hill
About
Quill Hill is located off Oddy’s Road on Route 16 in Dallas Plantation between Rangeley and Stratton, Maine and is known for its scenic views. Once you turn on to Oddy’s Road, you will follow a very well maintained dirt road for approximately 12 minutes, or four miles, to the top. At an elevation of 2,848 ft., visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking 360º view of Tim Pond, Rangeley Lakes, Saddleback, Saddleback Lake, Kennebago, Flagstaff and the Kibby Wind Power project. It is the only mountain in Maine with a 360º view accessible by automobile, bike, ATV, and motorcycle, and it includes a 4,000 ft. wheelchair path between the two scenic views. No matter what type of transportation you use, please be respectful of the land so that it doesn’t get closed to the public.

Beautiful place to visit. It is September 26, and the leaf peeping is amazing. Nice drive up, and beautiful places to set to enjoy the views. Nice easy walking trail for the entire family.

It was a 15 minute drive at 25 mph through the woods but absolutely worth it. We were out looking for moose but happened upon the sign for Quill Hill and decided to check it out. So glad we did and it was just before sunset so when we got to the top it was stunning! If you go at that time bring your bottle of wine and glasses and toast to the fellow who did this drive. There are picnic tables there in an area landscaped with boulders.

The road up is narrow and gravel which must be traveled slowly. It is worth every second of the approximate 4-mile drive.

I worried about a long dirt ascent, with a $10 admission fee. Silly me. This was the best investment of an hour and a ten dollar bill we have made in a long time. Yes it was a bright sunshiny day. Yes it was October and near prime. And no it hasn't rained in weeks...but if you are well stocked with exclamations, and just a tad bit vulnerable to God's blessings of beauty, take the turn off Route 16 and s l o w l y meander to the top...with a camera...and a dictionary!

We have visited this lovely mountain side drive to the submit in the past. This visit included a 10.00 fee which is not necessary. There was also an evergreen tree on the side of the road tacky decorated with empty Crown Royal bags, tinsel and old ornaments. This is not what nature in Maine is about. Very disappointed by these changes and will not revisit or recommend. The view is awesome but getting there is not.

We visited Rangeley for our 23rd wedding anniversary. We had been to quill hill 2 years ago so we decided to see the sunset there . It was beautiful!! There is a 10 dollar fee now but worth it the road is very well maintained and visible signs for easy directions to the top.. It was 77 degrees in town but only about 61 at the top so don’t forget your hoodie

We were a little put off at first learning about the $10 charge but once at the top I have to say it's well worth it. The 360 views are amazing and any pictures I've seen online don't do it justice. Be sure to go on a clear, dry day when the mountains aren't obscured by haze. Bring a picnic lunch as there are tables up there, and make the most of your time. Breathtaking!
