Lucky Catch Cruises offers 1 1/2 hour lobstering excursions in Casco Bay, Maine. The tours depart from Long Wharf in Portland and operate from the first weekend of May through the last weekend of October. A typical lobster excursion involves pulling eight traps near scenery such as the Portland Headlight Lighthouse, Civil War Fort Gorges and the Seal Rocks. Lobsters can be purchased after the tour for a discounted price and brought to the restaurant next door for cooking. We limit the number of passengers on each boat, so please call ahead for reservations. All the best from Maine!

Our 13-year-old son commented that he wished the cruise were longer after we finished taking the Lucky Catch Portland Head Light cruise. It was a very hands-on experience for everybody, which of course the kids loved-and most of the adults did too. Passengers get to pull traps, measure lobsters, and identify the gender of the lobsters. The staff were enthusiastic... More

We didn't realize there is so much to learn about lobsters. I was a little dubious about going out in one of the smaller tour boats that take off from Commercial Street's Long Wharf, especially in choppy water. Once aboard, all my fears went by the wayside because the captain was so engaging and interesting. He made sure every person... More

We went on this cruise with our 9 yr old because my husband and I had been previously and we knew she would love it. I called to make a reservation but they were booked for the cruise I wanted. I asked about going out the next day and that was booked too. As I was thinking we couldn't make... More

This isn't a run-of-the-mill day cruise. You will be putting on a rubber apron and a rubber glove or you will get dirty. There are two different boats, and they are owner operated by nice young men. It was an interesting way to get out on the water and learn a thing or two about lobster. We saw some seals... More

Educational, interactive, scenic and just a lot of fun! The captain and first mate will get everyone involved in working a lobster boat. Great experience.

We all really enjoyed ourselves on this excursion. I have a 10, 7 and 3 year old. The crew was kind, informative and really tried to involve everyone. They limit the number of guests in each excursion so that everyone can be hands on. We got to see a lion seal and lighthouses on our tour. We bought our catch... More

I chose this activity for my 10 year old niece, but I enjoyed every moment. The two guides are excellent. They encourage participation and are very patient and knowledgeable. Even if you don't want to help put dead fish in the 'feed bag', you will enjoy the beautiful scenery. And, you can buy one of the lobsters that you pull... More

This was a lovely family trip. It was a good way to learn about the lobster industry and how the catch lobsters. Everyone got involved and you had tge opportunity to purchase a lobster for dinner.

We're 60+'s heading toward 70 so we were a wee bit anxious when we climbed aboard the Lucky Catch with a family [3,6,8] and another with two teenager's and a twosome in mid 30;s. I anticipated a "kid" trip. WOW -was I wrong - from the moment we started out the two croo, young women [college student and elem. teacher]... More

We learned so much about lobstering and the Portland area. The tour was extremely well organized with time for hands on fun and pleasant relaxation. Both guides were exceptionally friendly and knowledgable. They seemed to be having a good time, too! I highly recommend this cruise for all ages!!
