Lucky Catch Cruises offers 1 1/2 hour lobstering excursions in Casco Bay, Maine. The tours depart from Long Wharf in Portland and operate from the first weekend of May through the last weekend of October. A typical lobster excursion involves pulling eight traps near scenery such as the Portland Headlight Lighthouse, Civil War Fort Gorges and the Seal Rocks. Lobsters can be purchased after the tour for a discounted price and brought to the restaurant next door for cooking. We limit the number of passengers on each boat, so please call ahead for reservations. All the best from Maine!

My husband and I took this cruise and we were delighted. The Captain and crew were friendly and personal, none of that touristy vibe. We learned so much about the lobstering life from their personal stories along with education on the process. Everyone suited up in rubber aprons and gloves and participated. Fun for all ages and well worth the... More

I wasn't sure what to expect- paying to haul in lobsters seemed like a gimmick. But this was one of the more entertaining boat rides I've ever had. I brought my 17 year old son, and he enjoyed the trip immensely, but really it's fun for everyone. There were people from 7-80 years old on the trip, and we all... More

Hands down, the highlight of our New England Trip! We didn't have a lot of success with catching lobster, but we did catch some. It's hands on (if you want it to be), we learned a lot about how lobstering works and the conservation efforts that are taken. We carried our lobsters from the boat to the restaurant for the... Have taken visitors on the Lighthouse / Lobster Trap cruise two years in a row. Everyone cites it as the high point of their visit to Portland. 90 minutes to see Bug Light, Spring Point Light, and Portland Head Light while learning about lobstering by baiting, pulling, and opening lobster traps. Crew provides 'Nor'easter' wet weather gear for all as... More

This is a fun and educational lobster catching tour. We had the opportunity to participate in the baiting and banding of the lobster. We learned about their habits and also about the harbor seals that eat the bait! It was a small enough group that we all got the chance to have hands participation! Fun fun fun! You also have... We took 14 teenage boys on this adventure in the rain! They were totally captivated. Aside from 4 of them, the rest had never been on a lobster boat. It was raining hard but not one kid complained because they all needed to be as stoic as the crew of the boat. They did everything from filling the bait bags... More

So where to start.. Call ahead. Get on the reservation list. Also get there incredible early. It took us an hour to park and 40$ thanks to the city's parking meter error. Upon arrival you head out and bait and catch your own lobster. You learn a ton from

We absolutely loved this cruise. It's incredibly interactive. You get to learn how to bait the traps, put on lobster claw bindings, and you even get several lessons on lobster anatomy. It was amazing! During the cruise, the crew takes you out to various traps (they are already down there for 3 days usually) and shows you how to measure... More

We had a fantastic time during our Lucky Catch Cruise. The staff were great at explaining the surroundings and all about lobsters. They made sure that everyone had a turn doing an activity on the boat, like filling up the bait bags, measuring a lobster or pushing the lobster cages back into the water. We also looked at any other... More

My wife, kids (15, 13, and 10 yrs)) and I vacationed in Maine a few years ago and really wanted to return to go on the lobster cruise. We were able to come back this year to go and had an absolute blast. Not only did we learn about lobstering, but we got to band the claws, measure the lobster,... More
