The Portland Art Museum anchors the Art District and is well worth a visit. The collection is diverse and well-curated. A visit will take 1-2 hours. The private galleries are a bit scattered and highly variable but, with diligence, you can find a number of...More

Most of the Arts District has a laid-back hipster ambiance. At its eastern end is the modernistic Portland Public Library (1979) and Monument Square with its bronze statue of Our Lady of Victories (1890) on a granite pedestal. At its western end is Longfellow Square...More

Very nice shops to explore in this area. You can find some interesting souvenirs or gifts. Lots of options as to types of stores.

'Arts District' of Portland Maine is more a promise than actual delivery. The section of Portland around the statue is used for demonstrations and gatherings, some art related. The public space does not feel warm or welcoming.

Billed as an arty experience, it falls way short of that. Mostly junk; highschool and college kids displaying their attempts at making art. Not to belittle or discourage young budding artists, but PLEASE have some talent before you put your inkblots and meanderings on a...More

Able Baker Contemporary is a great new addition at 29 Forest Avenue-- nice opening show on American Optimism. They featured women as well as men-- an issue with contemporary art. And the staff/interns are eager to help you understand.

Hits for us were the good art store, nice visit to the Maine College of Art. You'll find something to enjoy if you leave yourself open to it. Getting better!

It is never boring there at any history and art related place during the art walk. Enjoy a lot visiting Museum of Art, Maine College of Art, Roux&Cyr Gallery and all the galleries along the way.

Arts District ? More like a freak show with a ton of shady characters and homeless people begging for money. Dingy building, area hasn't been cleaned in months
