Curbside service only due to covid...
Apr 2021 • Family
They are open for curbside service only at this time (I would check online before you go) - it did look like a great bookstore from the window, I’m sure it’s a great place to stop when they are open for browsing again...or if you plan ahead and order some books that way.

Great independent book store AND dog friendly
Nov 2019
Amazing bookshop in downtown Portland. And dog friendly, which is something of an anomoly in this city. Huge YA section, a shelf just for Stephen King, local goods, and super friendly staff. A must for book lovers.

Love this bookstore
Jul 2019 • Family
I always want to support local stores, and this one is amazing. So many amazing books that have been hand-picked by the staff. The employees all are very knowledgeable and have jotted notes for each and every book in the store. Great section based on Maine itself. Lots of local, fun, handmade gifts as well.

First class bookshop!
Jul 2019 • Couples
Longfellow is a bookstore and almost exclusively that. It doesn’t try to be a toy store or a gift store and that’s a real plus. It carries a large selection of fiction both in paper and hardback and good sections of mysteries and sci if. Smaller are some of the nonfiction sections. Their children’s area is most attractive with lots from which to choose. They also have magazines and greeting and note cards. It’s easy to while away an hour here!

Needs a fresh look
Apr 2019 • Solo
Longfellow Books is old-school and has a nice selection of books as well as some t-shirts, greeting cards, and so on. It looks a little tired, though, and could use an update.

Fantastic (new AND used) selection
Aug 2018 • Friends
With all the competition from online retailers, one of the critical value propositions in a brick and mortar shop is the curation of the books they offer and knowledgeable staff. Longfellow ticks both these boxes. I rarely leave empty handed.

Fantastic selection
Jul 2018 • Solo
When I go out of town, the first place I head for is an indie bookstore and this one did not disappoint. They had a fabulous selection of new fiction, non-fiction, a gently-used section and an especially delightful children’s area. I love the “Local Top Sellers” section and even purchased “Call Me American” because the eye-catching display. There is also a good assortment of book-ish gifts like T-shirt’s, journals and notecards. I highly recommend this store if you are a book nerd or love someone who is!

One of My Favorite Indie Bookstores
Jan 2018 • Solo
Insanely huge selection with diverse topics and random amazing finds.

Great book sellers, who will suggest all kinds of new stuff or just randomly shoot the breeze.

And the prices are excellent. My last stop, I bought 13 books, some of them over 30 bucks each on Amazon, for 109 bucks.

An exceptionally welcoming bookstore w/ a great selection of titles
Nov 2017 • Family
I've been a fan of this store for many years although it only recently that I met the owner and current managers. I am very impressed by the welcoming, helpful staff and the great selection of books, new & recent, bargain, and titles of local interest. Parking in the local municipal garage is OK. Worth a visit.
