About
Portland Fire Engine Co. offering narrated sightseeing tours of Portland Maine aboard a Vintage Fire Engine. We explore the peninsula of Portland and its many lighthouses and forts as well as the amazing architectural buildings hidden inside of the cobble stoned streets that make up our wonderful city. The tour is a great way of reliving Portland’s past, present and future. The viewing area high up on the Fire Engine gives amazing views of Casco Bay as well as fantastic opportunities for photographs. We are a highly rated tour operator in Portland so please check out some of our 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor below. The sightseeing tours are approximately 50 minutes in length and are fully narrated with a very knowledgeable guide displaying high resolution photographs from the Maine Historical Society through our on-board multimedia system which includes a large flat LED TV. We begin and end our tours in the heart of the Old Port which is a great way to discover all that our magical city has to offer. This area of the city is great for sightseeing tours as well as the world famous shopping and the amazing restaurants, pubs and shopping. Informative and Fun for All Ages Sightseeing Tours begin and end at 180 Commercial St. (Located in front of Portland Lobster Co.)

Really cool tour of the city on the back of an antique fire truck that also had a big screen showing info. The one-hour tour leaves from and returns to Portland waterfront. There are only 13 seats so tours sell out but you can sign up online in advance. Tour guide Mary was awesome - very knowledgeable and funny. Saw different parts of Portland and heard about huge fires that destroyed neighborhoods and changed the city. Learned a lot and would recommend. Fun way to see city.

My wife and I were in Portland for the first time and decided to do a tour of the city from a refurbished fire truck that holds about 10-12 people. The tour takes about an hour and is done by a very knowledgeable man who clearly has a love of Portland while offering a nice glimpse into the history of the city. We really liked the tour and recommend it to anyone looking for a nice intro to the city of Portland.

We went on the vintage fire engine tour and it was a very interesting and factual tour that we enjoyed. The seats were filled up so my better half got to ride in the front and he said that was awesome. It was a fun way of doing sight seeing and learning.

We also booked the time slot thinking we would have time to get there after lunch which we arrived at 12- our restaurant didn’t actually take our orders until 1 and we didn’t get our food until almost 2 with our booking being at 2:30. Thankfully they were willing to change our time and if we didn’t make it they would refund us. Absolutely amazing service!! Thank you so much

Not worth the $30 per person. Can't take pictures, the ride is too bumpy. I tried to take pictures but with the shaking of the truck and the bumpy roads, after about 5 pictures, I stopped because you just can't focus in on the object. What's the sense of taking the tour, if you are unable to take pictures. In order for me to take pictures, after I paid $16.00 for parking, I had a copy of the route and I went back over the route and took the pictures I wanted to take along the way. The seats should be facing to the back of the truck so all persons can see what is being talked about, this way you can turn your head either to the left or to the right. Right now if your back is to the view that is being talked about, you will end up with a sore neck at the end of the ride, because you have to do a 180 degree turn with your neck, you can't stand up, because you have a seat belt on. The tour is too fast, the guide is talking about a certain item and by the time you obtain it in your sight, you are well past the viewed item. So for 45 minutes, it cost my wife and I $60.00 for the ride, $16.00 for parking and then they wanted a tip. $76.00 plus, not worth it, save your move and have a lobster diner instead, that you will appreciate more.

Thank you Dona for taking the time to review our tour. Portland is an amazing city and we try to offer a overview of the entire peninsula with our 50 minute tour to give our guests ideas on what to do when we finish. We agree Portland is bumpy with almost all our roads being paved over old cobblestone streets and it is a retro fitted vintage fire engine which adds to the old world feel.. We try to take you back in time before coach buses and cushy rides that our modern times provide. We do hope you enjoyed all that Portland had to offer.

Really enjoyed our tour. The tour was the perfect length - enough to give you good history on the city and it's main sights, but not too long that it becomes boring. You can tell the guides are really passionate about sharing their city with you. Got some good tips on restaurants and activities to do. Would definitely recommend fitting this into your trip!

If you're looking for a quick but informative tour, this is the one for you. We booked this tour for the day of our arrival so that we could get our bearings. The service was prompt but never felt rushed during the 50 minute drive around Portland. Our guide and driver were locals and were entertaining.

Tip - bring cash to tip the crew!

Four of us took the tour. Our guide was very well informed and made the tour very interesting. I had to make the travel itinerary for four people and everyone thanked me and said it was an excellent tour.
Time well spent.

I took a solo trip to Portland a few weeks back and at the last minute decided to book this tour. My tour guide was very knowledgeable and had plenty of jokes and funny comments and stories throughout :) It was a great tour to get a feel for the city, and I would absolutely go back and take the tour again with friends! Some people mentioned it was bumpy, but as a young person I didn't notice it that much. It was a perfect start to my day!

We always like to start our trip to any City by taking a City tour so that we can learn our way around and determine what sites we want to explore in depth. This was a great way to do it. The guide was a local, knowledgeable and fun. We had to cancel and reschedule our initial trip due to some transportation issues and owner was so accommodating. Couldn't have been a better experience. I would definitely recommend them!
