Visited the area and was told by a local to try this out. The history of the area told along the way (by land and water) was interesting. Who knew that Portland was manmade? Then to learn that these duck boats were used during WWII was endearing as my Grandfather served in the Navy in Portland (Ft. Williams). Who knows? Maybe he was transported by the boat we were on! Overall, I would recommend this tour to history buffs and those who have some extra time to see the city in a completely different way. School aged children and up would be better for this activity. We had a group of children through senior citizens. What a wonderful memory!

My family has wanted to take a Duck Boat Tour for years, and we’re glad we waited for the “Historic Land and Sea Tour” in Portland! Captain Mike and Tony Duck are entertaining hosts, who know all there is to know about the sites, sounds, restaurants, wildlife (esp Wolfgang the Seal who made a cameo appearance as if on cue), and Real Estate values in Portland. Tony Duck reminded me that the only things we need to learn, we learned in Kindergarten. Captain Mike’s expert maneuvering of the Duck Boat on land, and incomparable pilotage on the sea made the tour very enjoyable.

Really fun and educational tour of Portland. Both the land and sea portions were equally fun. The tour guide (Tony) was very enthusiastic and kept us entertained the whole time. Would recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn interesting facts of Portland and see the beautiful parts of the city and water.

This duck tour needed more …. More history, more unique details & stories about Portland, less quacking at dogs on the side of the road. The water ride was ok to experience an amphibious vehicle but was a short loop in the bay, not much to learn.

The tour was well-organized, unique (land & sea), with great views for all from every seat! The driver/captain was a Coast Guard Master, and the tour guide was not only full of information, but he delivered it with humor throughout the tour. It’s a great way to get an overview of downtown Portland, as well as a dip into Casco Bay with views of Fort Gorges, the harbor and two lighthouses. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this tour.

I love doing bus tours in cities that I visit as a way to get a sort of crash course about the area and cover a lot of ground. I figured this would be great because who wouldn’t want a bus tour and a boat tour in one? Unfortunately, I can confidently say that on this hour-long tour I learned next to nothing about Portland’s history, architecture, industry, fun places to go, or anything else I was actually interested in knowing. Our guide was insufferable, and the entire tour consisted of him telling awful jokes or trying to get us to sing and harass passersby. What a waste of money. At least Portland is beautiful so I could just tune him out and try and enjoy the sights.

The Portland Duck Boat Tour is an interesting way to see a small portion of the City. The tour includes a portion of downtown and then heads across the river to launch. The water side of the tour focuses on the South Portland waterfront and is limited due to the speed of the duck boat.

Dugan the Duck who narrated the Maine Duck Tour out of Portland was such fun. He told corny jokes but also gave a great history of all the buildings of significance we went by. Moving from land to water was great. We were sailing along with all the other boats and viewing Portland from Casco Bay. It was a fun and interesting tour of Portland.

All was well until we arrived at the boat docks where we were to enter the water. The small boat traffic was so busy that our captain decided (I'm sure with help) that we could not do the water portion of the trip. This was the main reason for our tour. In their defense, our entire tour price was credited back to our card, so I guess you could say that we got a "free" drive around the city of Portland.

Gerry, we’re sorry there was a unique circumstance at the ramp for your particular trip. Certainly the SPLASH is our big attraction and this is why we did fully refund this tour, despite delivering the full narrated land portion. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again for a full SPLASH experience.

Our family had so much fun! Lots of historical info and funny jokes. The host was awesome, at one point he walked up and down the boat offering to take photos of everyone on their phones. They even called us when we were running late to make sure we made it before they left without us. I would recommend this to anyone!

Wonderfully flattering review that we feel reflects our commitment to hospitality. Though we will leave at the exact tour time to the best of our ability, we do try and assure guests arrive on time and not miss their tour.

Do you get any narration on the water part? Some people said this part of the tour was wasted money

Yes. Dugan provided narration throughout the tour which included the water portion. The captain was also answering questions about fishing and catching lobsters.

How far from the cruise ship terminals. We’ll be on the grandeur of the seas in August. Thanks

Though we do often refer to the Ducks access point “the ladder” it is a set of stairs at the rear of the vehicle/vessel that are the typical height of a household/Commercial stair, however slightly more shallow in depth. We find that anybody capable of navigating traditional steps can be quite easily assisted by a member of their party and/or our staff. Kris, Owner
Hi! Can I bring a one-year-old on the tour? Thanks!

Yes, while we must charge for all on board (4 and under just $5), children may sit or stand on an adults lap, without hanging on to side rail.

Do they give everyone “quacker” whistles like the Duck Tours in DC & Boston?

At Maine Duck Tours we do have our own fun quacking style, however we do not presently offer the plastic quackers.

Short walking distance. Check in at The Blue Lobster shop across the street from where you board. Fun way to see Portland ... and the Casco Bay!!
