About
Shipyard Brewing Company is a family owned brewery - rooted in tradition and brimming with innovation. Our award-winning beer is handcrafted by our team of brewers who learned their art from world-renowned master brewer, Alan Pugsley. We are committed to cultivating a new generation of creative, passionate brewers. Our team is constantly exploring innovative and diverse styles of beer through our pilot system at our Portland brewery and our 7-barrel system at Federal Jack's Brew Pub in Kennebunk Harbor. Established in 1994, this family-run brewery set up shop in what was once a maritime foundry on the waterfront of Portland. Starting with our flagship Export Ale, we've produced over 65 handcrafted, traditional beers in the heart of this vibrant Maine community.

We did not get to the brewery until 7pm and were told they were not serving food. Disappointing to say the least. I ordered the Blueberry Seltzer and my husband ordered a flight of beer. The seltzer was like grape juice with some soda water. I checked the menu and it had 0 ABV but included CBD in it. I didn't take another sip because I have no idea how CBD could impact me. My husband enjoyed his flight but none of the beers inspired him to buy any at the brewery.

So we made a trip to Portland to get some Blueberry Beer from Shipyard. First of all zero parking due to heavy construction and ended up on a side street. Place was small and empty with patrons. We weren't interested in the pub, just the beer because blueberry is hard to find in our area.
Then I was very upset to find out they changed the blueberry beer to a "blueberry pie" that tasted way different than the original years ago. No wonder you can't find it back home because no one likes it. Then my second shock was the price for a case! You would think buying direct from the manufacturer would be cheaper like they do down south! Almost $100 for one case! That's crazy! I took home 6 bottles of Jack in TN for half the price they wanted!
They lost me as a customer and time to find a new Blueberry beer.

Great beer and a great atmosphere and good food. Would definitely recommend getting a flight so you can sample different beers, and one of those selections should be the blueberry beer (it is Maine, after all). The Euro 2020 soccer games were on-going when we were in Portland, and this was a fun place to watch them.

My boyfriend and I came here twice, not on purpose yet I'm SO happy we did. The first day we went we were seated outside due to the long wait to be seated indoors. It was a cute experience, not that thrilling but the service and ambiance is still comfortable. After a couple of flights, we went inside to look at the gift shop which was by far my favorite part. There's so much to purchase at affordable prices. By the time we left and looked in our gift bag, I realized I accidentally bought the wrong size shirt and had to go back, no biggie! The next day we went as soon as they opened and figured why not experience the indoor vibes..SO MUCH BETTER. Definitely if you can try being seated inside!! Flights and food was wonderful and I would love to go back!!

Can't say how awesome the Shipyard team is to work with. We hosted an event of 60 or so people and they made the entire process fun and seamless. Our guests loved the environment and of course the BEER! Great place to hold an event or just to hang out with friends. Enjoy!

WE walked over to Shipyard from Old Port, short walk. Most of us enjoyed a flight of beer and several very good, our favorite was the pumpkin with seasoning on the glass rim. Several good ales. I would definitely take the time to visit if you enjoy beer. They had a great gift shop also.

We didn't get to sample beers or eat, but we had a great time picking out gift items in the gift shop. We picked up our Smashed Pumpkin 4-packs and a smashed pumpkin candle too :) A few other items including delicious beer cheese pretzels. Highly recommend stopping here!

Everyone is struggling with the pandemic. I have met many wonderful people who are working very hard in this difficult environment around this town and wish them all the best. Your staff here is very grumpy and certainly not very polite. Smile and be nice you might fill those seats.

Thank you for your sharing your experience and we hope you will give us another chance if you are back in town.
Thank you again,

Love a good brewery visit, even during this time of Covid. What stood out most was the beer itself. Far tastier and more distinctive than some other Portland breweries that we visited. My wife also found some great discount pint glasses in the gift shop.

This refers to Shipyard Brewing Company’s Portland Airport site. The service is virtually nonexistent. Place is 2/3 empty. Sign says wait to be seated. Waited 15+ minutes. Ten+ people in line behind me. Waitperson on a computer terminal with her back turned to the door. Bartender chatting up customers. No one paying attention. When I finally asked the waitperson if we could all be seated she said yes. Then back to the computer, with clearly no interest in her customers. The bar tender was obviously annoyed when I asked for a menu. Finally, when The waitperson decided to ask what we wanted and asked a question about a sandwich she said they were all pre-wrapped. Could’ve gone to a machine. Avoid this place.

Is there a wheelchair ramp?
Written March 9, 2019
Hello. Unfortunately, the entrance is not. If I recall there were about 6-8 stairs. Once inside, there are ramps to the rest rooms and tasting room. I hope that this helps!

I'll be traveling this summer with my teenage daughter. Is she able to come in the tour with me?
Written December 28, 2017
We brought our 2 year old with us on our visit - didn't try the tour, but had a nice time in the tasting room. They even have a soda tasting that might be fun for your daughter!
