Indian II - Two great fishing trips
In 2004 I took two trips aboard the Indian II to go Cod + fishing. I am an avid salltwater fisherman. I particularly like to bottom fish and have done that from Key West, FL up to Mayport, FL; Morehead City, NC targeting Grouper, snapper and Grunts. In the Chesapeake area where I live I target Flounder, Sea Bass and other bottom fish. I had never been Cod fishing before my trip on the Indian II and I was very pleasantly surprised. After a very nice ride out, (a little over an hour as I remember) we dropped our lines into a little over 200 feet right over the fish. Immediately Cod started coming in the boat 2 at a time and the average size was about 4 pounds. Soon other types of fish were added, Pollock, Cusk, Haddock and an occasional Dogfish (small shark). The boat was very clean and the crew went out of thier way to accomadate all fishing needs. We used jumbo shrimp as bait. Everyone on the boat caught fish and had a great time. There were several children on board that really enjoyed the trip also. After my first trip, I went back again, this time with my own rod and reel, and instead of the line provided by the boat which was monofiliment, I used 50lb Power Pro. At the 200 feet depth it gave me a distinct advantage over those using boat rods, as I could immediately feel the bites and set the hooks. On this trip I caught the most fish and shared the pool prize with another angler that had another 7 pound fish (his was Cod mine was Haddock). If you like fishing you'll love the Indian II. If you bring your own rod and reel make sure you use a braided line like power pro. I am planning a return trip this July. ***** rating!
