Gritty McDuff’s, Maine’s Original Brew Pub specializes in

hand-crafted English style ales and traditional and creative pub fare, in

a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both Gritty's fine ales and the pubs

have won countless "best of" awards through our twenty-six years of operation.

Our standard brews are session beers, Gritty’s Pub-Style Pale Ale, McDuff’s Best Bitter, Black Fly Stout,

allowing one to have multiple beers within a reasonable time period without overwhelming the

senses. Our seasonal and varietal ale offerings are more adventurous, some with a higher ABV, and some with higher IBU. We brew a beer for all craft brew palates.

For the diner, we offer traditional pub fare alongside not so traditional

specialty items. Our pub-style long tables with benches easily accommodate parties

of all sizes and add to the camaraderie.

We popped in for lunch before catching our ferry, thinking 80 mins for a pub lunch would be ample time. Our server was prompt in greeting us and getting us set up with a lobster chair (like a high chair, but it clips onto the table - very sturdy, best options possible for a baby), and getting our drink orders... We had a good lunch here. It was a busy Saturday, so service took a while, but we were able to get seated and drinks right away. The burgers were done well with several sides options.

We stopped here for some snacks and beer. There is a wide variety of beers to choose from. I had a blueberry beer and I definitely recommend it to others. I also ordered the crab cakes which was delicious as well. You can't go wrong with anything you order here.

We stopped in for beer after dinner. I had their Best Bitter on cask and my boyfriend had the Influx IPA #6. Totally different beers and both tasty. The bar tenders were nice, patrons not-21-year-old-drunkards, and the live music solid. Glad we wandered in!

We came to Gritty's last year for dinner on our first night I Portland. So good! Last year we had haddock sandwiches that were fried perfectly golden. Their selection of beers is crazy too, perfect for anyone who enjoys trying a new brew. They also have vegetarian options for those of you who have gone meatless. This year we got... More

On a recent conference trip to Portland I was able to enjoy 3 visits to Gritty's...2 as part of a tasting tour and one as,a follow up with a friend for a drink. This one of a numerous locally crafted breweries/bars in the vicinity and it certainly stands out on its own. Their beer is brewed in small batches in... More

We popped into Gritty's for a late lunch after a recommendation from someone in Boston. The place was multi-leveled with indoor & outdoor seating options. It was clean and has a pleasant atmosphere. I ordered a lobster dish with fries and a dill sauce. It was extremely glutinous but delicious. I would go back.

Gritty has decent original beers, and the venue isn't awful, but I simply didn't enjoy my visit, it can be really crowded at night and seating is at a premium, it can be pretty pricey as well.

Thank you for giving us a try. There are many faces to the pub, and a crowded weekend evening is one face, which many people enjoy and craft memories during. However, we have many other patrons that enjoy the quieter lunches or dinners where they can enjoy a less energetic atmosphere. More

I didn't go to the bar to eat. So my opinion is obviously not food related. I was there between shifts and both bartenders were friendly and professional. A double was actually a double. My girlfriend's cocktail wasn't watered down like most places nowadays and the atmosphere is what you would expect from a pub.

Thanks for the nod - we really appreciate it. We try hard to provide a good value on whatever you might be partaking in at our pub. Thank you for noticing and for taking the time to share. Cheers! More
