We have taken food tours all over the world and this was one of the best. Our guide Timothy was a local who provided us with some memorable visits to many of the food and beverage establishments in Portland, while giving us a very informative history of the area's culture. We enjoyed spending time with this talented and remarkable person and highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting this beautiful and interesting city.

Went on the "It's Happy Hour Tour" with Jason G and had an absolute blast. It just so happened that my husband and I were the only people on that particular tour so it was just the 3 of us. Jason has great energy and SO much knowledge. His easy going conversational style made us feel like we were visiting and old friend who was just showing us around. We went to some great restaurants had a cocktail and a small bite at each while Jason pointed out details all around us about what we were eating and the restaurant we were in as well as interesting anecdotes about the history of Portland. Watch out for cobblestones! At one restaurant the owner served us himself and gave us a look at the menu incase we wanted to come back. Everyone we met was lovely. The food was excellent. The drinks were delightful. I'm allergic to fish and seafood which the tour company knew about ahead of time so each place we went kindly accommodated and knew in advance. Allergy safe food was hot and ready upon our arrival. It was the perfect start to our evening and a wonderful introduction to Portland.

As with all of these types of tours, your tour guide makes or breaks the experience. Our tour guide, Ross, was truly second to none! From the moment he met us in the morning, he felt like part of the family. We were a family group of 14 with three generations participating. Knowing the history of a city gives such great perspective and meaning to your visit. Ross provided endless “firey” details and plenty of stories and laughs along the way. He kept all ages engaged and had a great awareness of how the group was doing (interest, energy levels, etc). Do be prepared to walk on uneven roads and surfaces. Although the time and miles do pass quickly, it can catch up you! I cannot recommend this tour enough. We would have loved to try out the foodie tour as well but timing just did not permit.

Thank you very much for joining us and leaving these wonderful comments about your tour and guide. We will be sure to tell Ross how you enjoyed his talents and personality! We agree that learning the history of the town offers a valuable perspective, whether it's your own town or one you're visiting, and we really enjoy sharing the stories and facts. For all who are reading, we can accommodate groups of larger size, such as 14 as long as you are arriving together. Otherwise, due to covid concerns, we are still limiting group size and asking for distancing, hopefully just a little bit longer. Thanks again for your praise. It means a lot to the company and will to Ross as well. Pam

We had a good time touring the Old Port area with Jason G. He's a great guide -- funny, and quite the showman! He shared lots of interesting information about Portland. For food, the chowder at Gilbert's and the Dean's Chocolates were the highlights.

The reason for the four star review is the number of people on the tour. They booked 17 people on our tour! We were so many that it was difficult to all cross a street within the time of a green light. We blocked the entire sidewalk repeatedly when we were stopped, or when our guide was sharing history with us - it was really embarrassing and we got a lot of dirty looks. At one stop we had to split up going inside the business because there were just too many of us to fit. It really took away from the tour. We've done a lot of food tours and never been in a group of more than ten.

My wife and I participated on this tour with Glenn as our guide. The overall tour size consisted of 5 guests. We visited 5 places with samples provided. At our request, Glenn even took us to a sixth place for handmade truffles which still honored our 10% discount despite being unplanned. He also helped me get my hands on pickled fiddle heads which were no longer in season (I was able to get one of the last five jars left in the store).

Great experience, thanks Glenn!

We booked three different tours (Kennebunkport, Portland and Bar Harbor) and each was really great in its own way. Jamie was a Maine native and we never had better chowder! Randy was a pleasure in Bar Harbor and kept us interested and well fed. Beth managed as tropical storm Elsa blew through - and we blew through so much great food as well. Pam and Glenn were a pleasure to work with too when we had to rearrange one of our tours.

Kudos and please don't hesitate to book with Maine Foodie Tours - a great way to experience what each town has to offer and learn from a local.

My wife took me to Portland for my birthday. She had scheduled the happy hour foodie tour for us which ran from 4-6 In the evening. It was pouring the day of our tour so we were skeptical how it would go but it ended up being one of the best times we have had and was the highlight of our trip. This was all thanks to our tour guide AJ! It was just my wife and I on the tour because there were a lot of cancellations due to the weather which made the experience all the more special. AJ was personable, fun, and very knowledgeable about the history of the city. She took us around explaining the history of some of the buildings and what they were used for prior to what they are now. She took us to four of the most popular restaurants/bars in the area and made sure we had a blast. She offered to take pictures of us so we could make the experience memorable. My wife and I felt like we were hanging out with a friend as opposed to our tour guide. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone that visits Portland and hopefully you are as lucky as we were to have AJ as the tour guide!

My boyfriend and I had SUCH an enjoyable time taking the Maine Foodie Tour (Culinary Walking Tour) in Portland, Maine! It happened to be just us two on the tour and Glenn took great care of us. We talked about the history of Portland, walked the main streets of the city, and ate absolutely delicious foods -- including donuts from Hifi Donuts, clam chowder, fresh lobster rolls, fresh haddock tacos, and chocolates. The food was exceptional and the service was even better than we imagined. Glenn was an amazing tour guide and we will absolutely be back for a visit!

We went on this tour expecting to get a variety of good seafood. The tour guide, A.J., was great, entertaining and informative throughout the tour. We had a good first course of clam and seafood chowder, but everything after that was pretty mediocre. And for the price I expected more food - all we got was a piece of bread, a cup of soup, a small seafood taco, a lobster roll that tasted a bit fishy, and a chocolate truffle that was just ok. Throughout the tour, the guide informed us of her favorite places to eat seafood in the city, most of which were not on this tour. We ended up having much better food at other places based on her recommendations. Ultimately this was not worth the cost. It seems like they can’t get good restaurants to agree to participate in this so they take whoever they can get, and the food ends up being so-so.

Hello Kate, We are glad that we gave you great recommendations to enjoy the remainder of your visit and that you enjoyed some of your foods and found it informative and entertaining. We have to take issue with your suggestion that we "can't get good restaurants on the tour" as we have no idea where this thought comes from! You neglected to include that you were also served fresh blueberry pastries from a bakery at the start and a choice of local craft beers at 2 locations, and if AJ's memory serves her, the group also enjoyed freshly shucked oysters on the waterfront. We will add that the taco was fresh, locally caught haddock and the full size lobster rolls feature freshly picked Maine lobster, and the dark chocolate truffles are from a multi-award winning chocolatier. We work with over 30 restaurant partners that rotate with us over 13 years in operation, so we will not show them your comment. We are glad to read that you took AJ up on many of her suggestions and enjoyed your other meals. Many of Portland's restaurants are only open for dinner, and guides love to promote their favorites, especially if we walk by over lunchtime tours. There is a wonderful abundance of amazing food here in town. We wish we could feature all of it! As to the price, lobster rolls alone are up to $37 pp plus tax/20% tip with some of our partners, so we ask that you are mindful of all costs associated with operations. You are not paying solely for foods and beverages served, you are also paying for the tour guide salaries, staffing for all customer service, websites, marketing, ticketing fees, reseller markups, etc. which all go into providing your experience. We thank you for joining us.

This was the 3rd time for us on the "classic" Maine Foodie Tour (Portland old port area). The first time (2016) was the best, with a variety of food and beverage stops, from brewpubs, to markets, to sit-down places. 2nd time (2018) was good but with less interesting stops. Have to say that the quality of the stops went down a bit again this last time, though I reserve some judgement due to the effect that Covid and the pandemic in general may have had on our ability to visit some of the more interesting sit-down establishments. Our guide, Timothy, who is a local artist, was great - knowledgeable and entertaining to listen to.
