Best childrens museum in New England. My children love it and really that is a tribute to the care and thoughtfulness of the place and the people behind it. The theater is a big plus if you get the timing of your visit right. Great...More
Our 2 & 4 year kids had a great time exploring everything the facility had to offer. So many things to feel and touch and play with - their senses were engaged from the moment they stepped in the front door. Get there early because...More
We went for an interactive play doh making and staff was awesome, my 4.5 yr old loved it! The areas to play were impressive as well, she loved it!! They had a special play area for really small kids. Also had a playground.

Came here with a three year old and an 11 month old. Both loved it. For adults this can be a little less enjoyable. There’s an area for young children to play in that requires the removal of shoes that we truly appreciated. Our toddler...More
This is a terrific place to set the kids loose for a fun and educational outing. We visited with our 5- and 8-year-old grands. They explored the top 3 floors. Their favorite spots were the fire truck/station and the 3rd floor color-light-camera obscura exhibit. But,...More

There would be some things that would be interesting for an 8.5 yo, but the way the museum is set up, it definitely looks younger - things are small/low and most of it seems to be geared to ages 3-6. Each child is different, so it is hard to say, but unless you have a younger one, it might be better to pick a different activity.
