A classic example of how urban renewal should be done. The old architecture has been preserved along the Portland waterfront. Lots of shops, boutiques and restaurants. Postland has done it right!

This New Year's Eve weekend was also my husband's 50th birthday. So we've decided to live it large. Stayed at a very cute Inn within walking distance of downtown. This is a very walkable town. It is cold this time of year of course. Not much is open. But the town itself is cute and there's enough to do.

I was lucky enough to visit just as the holidays were gearing up, so everything was decorated for Christmas. The cobblestone roads, the lampposts, the brick buildings, all help you envision what Old Portland must have looked like back in the day. A walk down by the docks is a must - the swaying boats and call of the seagulls... More

Great paved walking trail type, walks near railroad, and by water. During snow season the path is shoveled. Safe place to walk and take in Portland during the day and night. During winter the boats are stringed with lights and very festive.

I had a lovely time strolling around the Portland waterfront. I was very surprised to come across a portion of the Berlin Wall.

Had a blast in the old port. Brought our 14 yo and our small dog. Daughter loves the culture of old port, the crowds, small boutiques, and great restaurants. Dog loves FETCH, and crowds loved her! Nice time by all, very quiet for thanksgiving getaway.

The Old Port has many things to do...so many cute shops, wonderful restaurants, ferry tours, sailing, beautiful hotels, cobblestone streets and friendly people!
