Visited in August with my three children. They all found it to be very exciting and intriguing. They loved the dark passages and exploring upstairs. It was fun because we were in the neighborhood, camping in Phippsburg, but I wouldn't go out of our way to visit this fort. We were there for no more than 1 hour as it... More

Unlike a lot of historic sites, you get to experience this one up close and personal. You can see the tracks worn into the stone from the wheels of the large cannons (from practice; the fort was never in a battle). You can see how soldiers could have used the rifle ports. Great views from the top of the stairway.... More

This fort has a second story that is accessed via a stairway and takes you to a series of small windows that give a nice view of Popham Beach and of Georgetown on the other side of the water.

Great place to visit. Water is cold and current strong but everything is free. Parking is tough, very small area, get the early. Great restaurant on beach

Stunning well crafted old FORT. Very fun place for kids to run around and enjoy history. Not much parking during the summer to the high beach traffic.

We had kayaked across the river to go to the beach, and went to the fort to explore. It's free. There are signs inside that explain about the fort. You can go up two sets of stairs, but not out on the top. Still a nice view. Nice to cool down from the hot sun at the beach.

Parking is limited and may be an issue. This is an interesting place to way around however not very big and not a lot of information to take in. As mentioned this is a cool way to spend 30-40 minutes not to mention its free.

A beautiful historic site to visit and it's free. It is well maintained. It's a great place to wander, with a nice sandy beach and a rocky area to explore at low tide.

Free to visit and wander through the nicely maintained ruins. Gives an idea of the conditions in which soldiers and milicia lived in this stategic defense fort.

I have been to Fort Popham seceral times with my husband. We never tire of the history and views. June 2016 we went with two family members, one who was 10. All four of us enjoyed the history, the views of the river and ocean from everywhere inside the fort snd on top. We enjoyed the fun of climbing inside... More
