Most of the Forts in Maine were built, but never used. Isn't that the idea? To be so fortified that we do not become attack! History buffs will enjoy this. Children have a safe area to run and play. Photographers will love taking photos of the ocean. And there is the beautiful State Park with a beach nearby. Bring your lunch... More

I was looking for a place to enjoy the sunset at the coast with my mother and young daughters and as Popham State Park was closing we continued on to this Fort historic site that the front desk person at the hotel had recommended. It was a nice surprise and we enjoyed it. My girls went running off through the... More

We had visited the Desert of Maine and the tour guide had recommended that we stay at Spinneys Restaurant & Guest Houses the best beach you will ever see in Maine. We had lunch at Spinneys Restaurant and rented a room for the night. This place is right on the water. All the food is house made and was excellent.... More

Exploring the in's and out's of this historic beautiful stone work fort is beyond comparison to any other oceanside opportunity - during any season that it is open. Most popular is of course summer - ample parking, but could fill up - if it does, go to Percy's for $10 and backtrack with good eats, and your own cooler or... More

Visited in August with my three children. They all found it to be very exciting and intriguing. They loved the dark passages and exploring upstairs. It was fun because we were in the neighborhood, camping in Phippsburg, but I wouldn't go out of our way to visit this fort. We were there for no more than 1 hour as it... More

Unlike a lot of historic sites, you get to experience this one up close and personal. You can see the tracks worn into the stone from the wheels of the large cannons (from practice; the fort was never in a battle). You can see how soldiers could have used the rifle ports. Great views from the top of the stairway.... More

This fort has a second story that is accessed via a stairway and takes you to a series of small windows that give a nice view of Popham Beach and of Georgetown on the other side of the water.

Great place to visit. Water is cold and current strong but everything is free. Parking is tough, very small area, get the early. Great restaurant on beach

Stunning well crafted old FORT. Very fun place for kids to run around and enjoy history. Not much parking during the summer to the high beach traffic.

We had kayaked across the river to go to the beach, and went to the fort to explore. It's free. There are signs inside that explain about the fort. You can go up two sets of stairs, but not out on the top. Still a nice view. Nice to cool down from the hot sun at the beach.
