We really enjoyed our visit to this lighthouse. It is a very short walk from the parking area. you also have the option to walk down to the swimming area which is also a short walk and my wife was able to put her feet in the ocean. to get to the top of the lighthouse platform you must walk up a flight of steps. I would recommend this lighthouse to anyone Who loves lighthouses we are very grateful for those who have restored and keep these lighthouses open to the public. It is also beautiful to see God,s creation and can only imagine how many people a lighthouse like this has saved so thank God for the light houses

Park at Owl's Head Light State Park and walk .2 miles on a packed dirt road. The lighthouse is small, but the views are amazing. Climb easy, long stairs to get to the lighthouse. There is also a gift shop/museum. Good photos of the lighthouse would be hard to take at peak season because so many people are around. No charge. Those with canes can make the stairs, but not wheelchairs.

One of the best short trips you'll ever take. Park about a quarter of a mile from the lighthouse and walk through the woods while enjoying spectacular ocean views. Peaceful and thoroughly enjoyable. Go early in the day to avoid crowds, and remember to bring your camera.

One of 65 lighthouses on the Maine coast designed in 1826 by order of President John Quincy Adams as a navigational aid to help ships safely transport LIME out of the harbor. Automated in 1989 still operational today. A big deal about it, told it is worth millions?! The Fresnel lens ( that which give light for the ships); it was one of 6 in Maine. Park in the lot and walk through woods with the bay on the side. It opens to present the lighthouse. Stairs up and small platform to look out. It is locked up and no caretakers/volunteers around day we were there. Great views all around! Took some awesome photos.

We visited the Owls Head Lighthouse Park. It was only a few minutes walk from the parking area and we were happy to visit on a bright and sunny day. Only disappointment was that it was a weekday and it was still not open (we went at 1:30 PM). Neither was the visitor center that went along with it. It was however free and a must do on your vacation to the Camden/Rockport area. Just a 20 minute drive from downtown.

My husband and I visited Acadia in early May off season to avoid the crowds of summer and then worked our way down the coast visiting lighthouses as we went. Interestingly this light was authorized to be constructed at the entrance to Rockland Harbor by President John Quincy Adams in 1825 to protect the growing lime trade there. The keepers house is private residence for the Coast Guard but you can climb the steps to the light and get a good view of the harbor. There is a parking lot and a trail to the steps. HINT: Get the booklet Discovering Maine's Lighthouses and Harbors to get a complete listing of lighthouses, their accessibility, and the all important directions. Enjoy!

A lighthouse helping Mariners navigate safely. High point for a lighthouse. Near dusk the light lit! The light does not spin a code but stays stationary. Very cool. The trail hugs the ocean showcasing great views.

you walk maybe less than a quarter of a mile through woods overlooking the ocean. Then, there in all its glory is a real Maine lighthouse. We walked all around the property and stopped at the little museum/gift shop. The bright and sunny weather hitting the water helped make the visit a success! Would recommend stopping if ever in this area.

We stopped here during a day of driving the coast and seeing a few different lighthouses. This one had free parking nearby, and then required a walk of maybe a quarter mile through the trees to the lighthouse area. There's a small gift shop at the base, and some stairs leading up to the light itself. There were a fair number of people around when we visited (a Friday in early October) but with patience I was able to get some nice pictures of both the lighthouse and the surrounding water.
This lighthouse is only a few minutes' drive from the Rockland Breakwater Light, so both can be seen pretty easily, although that one has a much longer walk required to get up close. In my mind, this one is prettier and I'd choose it if I only had time for one of the two.

A quaint lighthouse perched high on a Maine mountainside, Owls Head Light is worth a visit. Located in a state park, leashed dog are allowed to visit but not inside the lighthouse. There is a wooded walk from the parking area to the lighthouse and ramps and 53 easy steps get you to the lighthouse. Once inside there is one turn of stairs and a ladder into the lamp area. The people who staff the light are knowledgeable and friendly. On a clear day, you can see for miles and the staff pointed out Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park to the north. It was a great stop in our lighthouse tour.

How long/hard is the walk? My Daughter has Special needs and was curious. Thanks

This area, according to legend, was named by native Indians because the rock outcropping supposedly looks like an owl. I have to say I have walked the lighthouse area, flown over it and sailed past it and I can not see an owl! However, like much of Mid-coast Maine the coastline is spectacular.

We took our dog up - - didn't see any signs saying they are prohibited. Please note though that space is at a premium up there so don't take you pooch if there are many people around.
