Great history about the area.

So glad we stopped in. The host was very friendly and knowledgeable. They have 14000 years old arrowheads from the area. It is a must stop. So happy we did.

Must go back!
Sep 2019
We were scouting the lake for possible sailing options and saw this museum. It is an incredible museum - we couldn't see everything the first time around. The exhibits are presented so extremely well from baskets to boats to fly fishing and so much more. It really is a must see if you are in this area. A first class museum. We live about 1 hour and 45 minutes away and would go back for a nice day trip. Well worth a visit.

What a treasure for those interested in Rangeley history in all its splendor ! The displays and interpretation are exceptionally well done . From the sporting history to lodgings to wonderful local personalities , this fabulous place has it all . Very knowledgeable and helpful staff , keeping the history alive with humor and great stories. The artifacts are true windows to the past and it is wonderful to see how well these folks bring yesterday to life. Don’t miss this place !

Just little museum

We really enjoyed this museum including an old log hunting cabin that gave a glimpse into how people of the area lived. We also learned about the history of the area. The great wealth of large fish and good game bought many people to vacation the area.
A wonderful look at the rich history of an amazing, rustic place surrounded by nature.

Great way to spend a half-day
Oct 2018 • Couples
We visited this museum one afternoon while the weather was dicey for the day, while vacationing in the area with my wife and her sibs and spouses. There are a TON of things to see here and we could have spent another couple of hours perusing the history and information about the area. The older couple who were manning the entrance and providing the guided tour through part of the museum were delightful, though I almost asked the guy to talk a little louder during his portion. There were areas that dealt with fishing, other areas dealing with hunting, artwork from the past and a LOT of local history. This was not some stuffy little shop but rather a vibrant, entertaining place and the lady who helps run it was a HOOT! She was great...and worth the price of admission herself.

Honeymoon Surprise
Sep 2018 • Couples
On our honeymoon in the Rangeley area, we happened upon the museum one beautiful afternoon. Immediately, upon opening the front door, we were greeted by their most gracious host, Zeke. Zeke saw to it that my wife and I were properly introduced to the Manager (Nick?) and once oriented, we were invited to walk through the different rooms of the museum to learn and experience the life and times of Rangeley residents of the past. There were all sort and manner of artifacts, and while very quiet, Zeke, accompanied us throughout our tour. He was most gracious and obvious knew his territory well, pointing here and pointing there!!! And why not, as a start German Short-haired Pointer, it was his pleasure! A most delightful time at this beautiful place, indeed. Actually, my wife and I talked about the possibility of getting a "Zeke" into our home upon our return to Massachusetts. Thanks, Nick, for a great visit. God bless you and Zeke.

Dear Autumn, Congratulations again on your marriage and thank you for the touching review. Nick is terrific and serves as our Assistant Director. Zeke is a "volunteer", although somewhat of a "captive" one as he is my constant companion and my non-winter months are largely spent at one of our two museums. Nick, Myself and Zeke as the "staff" appreciate your kind words and serve in our duties with great delight. We have many of the best volunteers around as well that help keep us going as well. Please come back. Zeke sends his best! Thank You, Bill Pierce, Executive Director, Rangeley lakes Historical Society
