If you love peaceful, well-attended gardens, you will fall in love with these two gardens. They are like jewels along the coast of Maine near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The Asticou Azalea Garden paths wind along water pools that reflect the forested gardens. The Thuya (the name comes from the type of pine that was planted 100 years... More

Any visit to Mt.Desert Island should include a stop at Thuya Gardens. If physically able, I recommend to park in the little parking g lot on 3, just past the Asticou Inn. It's a straight up walk through a beautiful wooden area. Stop often and turn around to view NE Harbor. If you'd like, once you get the the Gardens... More

Stopped in at Thuya Garden first. If you don't want to take the 200+steps up, make sure to continue all the way to the main gates. Great space and can hike to Asticou, Very relaxing and worth the stop.

We wanted to climb the Eliot Summit and came to find this place. What a nice surprise. The garden is beautiful and the lounge is very cozy. Highly recommended.

Went here to have popovers since I heard you had to have them while in Maine. They were delicious! My husband had a lobster/Brie quesadilla and it was quite tasty. The grounds are beautiful with a view of the water. The bartender makes a great blueberry Mojito.

This is a beautiful garden and the views on the way up (if you decide to walk up) of Northeast Harbor are lovely. It is a hike up, but there are lots of shady resting places to stop along the way. When you reach the top, be sure to stop and see the beautiful home of the man who lived... More

There are two ways to access Thuya Gardens.....For those that want to experience the terraces...park in the SMALL lot just off route 3. You will cross the road and begin your garden experience at the stone inscribed wall. The terraces move up the hillside in a switch back pattern but the views and plants are just lovely. For those that... More

The gardens are beautiful garden with a wide selection of well labeled flowers and plants. It appears it would have color interest all season long. The gardens were perfectly manicured and tended, not a weed in sight! It was quiet and peaceful with lots of places to sit and contemplate the beauty of it all. The terraces were a hike... More

This is a must see if you are in the area. The gardens are beautiful and the grounds are lovely. Park at the bottom and walk up if you are able. You won't be disappointed. There are three lookouts over the harbor. Lovely and tranquil. We truly enjoyed this outdoor space.
