We had a truly wonderful Puffin Cruise on the Hardy Boat on July 31st!! It was a perfect summer evening (and nice to escape the humidity by getting out on a boat). The captain spent extra time at Eastern Egg Rock for us to see LOTS of puffins - both in the water and flying overhead, and we appreciated him pointing out the ruddy turnstones on the rocks - first time we'd seen them. Everyone on board wore masks and it was easy to social distance on the boat (because it was less than half of capacity to allow for the space). Their staff person did a good job with the bird narration as well. We highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in birds!!!

Within the last year, I have had two great trips with hardy Boat Cruises. Last summer, my friend and I were spending some time in Maine to escape a spell of very got weather in NH. I had always loved puffins, so we took advantage of a cooling sunset cruise "Puffin Watch". Wew were certainly not diappointed. There was a guide from Maine Audubon, expert bird identification and plenty of puffins. Great viewing of puffins on the water and on the island.
Yesterday, we returned to mainland from a few days on Monhegan Island. From starting he plan for this trip in the midst of COVID to the return to mainland yesterday, Hardy Boat cruise line was informative and professional . We were treated to a pod of dolphins on the way to Monhegan! The measures to ensure the safety and well being of the passengers reduced our anxiety about travel in these perilous times.

Our family had a wonderful 5:30pm cruise to Easter Egg to view the seabirds. The boat's crew were confidence inspiring; they explained the sequence of events before and during our cast off from the dock. The crew cleverly helped the passengers identify the different seabird species with posters and puns. Our Audubon commentator pleasantly described the seabird history around New Harbor while pointing out each species that flew around the boat. The ship's captain maneuvered the boat so each side had ample time to get an unobstructed view, which I thought was a considerate touch. On the journey back to the dock the Audubon commentator and Puffin Project researcher offered seabird souvenirs for sale (with proceeds benefiting the project). Overall excellent experience and underpriced.

Unfortunately, most of the Puffins had already left for the season on 8/15/21. The company did offer a voucher everyone for a future cruise. We were able to see other sea birds on eastern egg Island, but if you want to see Puffins I would recommend booking a Puffin Cruise earlier in the summer. The Audubon Naturalist was knowledgeable but you cannot here them if you are seated inside the cabin. You should note the ramp from the dock to the ship is extremely steep. It is not really handicap friendly for any one who uses a cane, walker or wheelchair.

We used Hardy Boats to travel to and from Monhegan Island for a couple day getaway. Although we had 4-5 foot swells, our captain kept us informed and calm regarding the rough seas, and I actually found the trip a fun adventure. The crew loading and unloading our luggage was prompt, professional and courteous.
On the return trip, our captain diverted slightly in pea-soup fog to show us an island of frolicking seals, much to our delight. Having sailed in such weather ourselves, I understood why the trip took a bit longer than usual, and appreciated the captain's care and professionalism. We will definitely use Hardy Boats again!

We had very calm seas last Friday, and were able to see several seals out in the morning. On the return trip we saw a good number of both harbor and grey seals, plus many pods of harbor porpoises. The ride was smooth and the captain provided a great narration. All the folks on the boat were wearing face masks and keeping their spatial distancing. Just a great trip both on the boat and while at Monhegan Island.

These guys are simply the best! We've used their services several times previously and each time we walk away so impressed by their friendliness and apparent joy they share in taking this spectacular journey out to Monhegan Island.

On our trip earlier this week, I totally screwed up on the departure time and we missed our boat by 10-minutes. I don't recommend this to anyone unless you're interested in stress-testing your marriage. The lovely young woman at the front desk helped us find an alternate accommodation (through a lobster charter boat) and they waived the fee for our missed boat.

I don't recommend this drama to anyone but it does show how genuinely these folks care about their customers.

I can't recommend them highly enough.

Couldn't find a ticket to Monhegan Island on one of the nicer days, so went on the wildlife tour, which is was a beautiful cruise in the bays of this part of mid-coast Maine. Hardy Boys is a vibrant small business and I learned rich history about the little islands that dot the coast from a very knowledgeable captain. We spotted wildlife, but mostly took in the fun facts about the inhabitants of the islands, probably the most famous being Samoset.

We took visiting family on a Puffin Cruise Thursday noon. It was a glorious day with a little swell left over from Isaias. Capt. Chad and crew Caden gave us a great ride and informative & entertaining commentary on the birds and the history behind why we are fortunate enough to enjoy this slice of nature.
This was our 2nd Puffin adventure this season, and we thoroughly enjoyed the repeat. Social distancing and face masks had us feeling safe and comfortable.

I went on the Puffin and the Seal cruises. Both were excellent! The docent on the Puffin cruise was very knowledgeable and it was amazing that it was foggy- the ideal conditions for puffins to show themselves, which they did with fly-bys and feather maintenance in the water. The seal watching cruise was wonderful. We went out to the ledge where they were relaxing and saw some swimming nearby. The captain was very knowledgeable and educated us on the good news story of the increase in their numbers. The cruise to and from the ledge for the seals and Eastern Egg Rock Island was spectacular. Highly recommend this if you are visiting Mid-coast Maine.
