The beautiful Thuya Garden was a Very Pleasant Surprise during our trip to the Bar Harbor /Northeast Harbor area. If you are in good walking shape, we recommend you park at the parking area across the road from Asticou Terraces and Walk Up the Asticou Terraces to Thuya Garden. Absolutely Beautiful!!!

This place is not obvious - the sign is hardly noticeable, it's up a long winding very narrow road - a bit nerve wracking when a car comes the other way, as one of you must find a place to pull off. However, it was worth it - the gardens were STUNNING. I was shocked what was still in bloom at the very end of September. So much variety and blooms larger than my outspread hand. Lots of butterflies and bumble bees. I took approximately 9 million pictures. For $5 pp, it's a bargain. We spent maybe 45 minutes.

Possibly favorite spot near Acadia. The gardens are beautiful as are Asticou gardens and both are pretty quick to discover. At Thuya there is a door that makes you feel you are entering a fairytale kingdom. It’s like a portal to a magical wooded trail w moss, winding trails and rocks and trees. Beautiful way to get into nature and one day we had the trails to ourselves and one day passed on other family. From there go to Northeast Harbor and have delicious food and drinks at 123 Main. What a perfect day.

This is the place to be if you are an avid gardener like I am. Thuya Garden is always so beautifully in bloom when I visit each September. The dahlias are tall and lush, the Joe Pye weed is taller than any I have seen elsewhere, and hummingbirds will often sit and pose on a branch while I snap away with my camera. In September it is never crowded there--- peaceful and serene is a good description of the place and of the feeling you get when visiting. The variety of blooms is terrific --a colorful and artful display! One of my favorite spots to visit -- I never tire of this beautiful place.

This was a pleasant surprise on our tour of Acadia National Park. Away from the traditional sights, wonderful place to spend an hour to enjoy nature in a peaceful and beautiful setting. Small, but that means you can walk it all in an hour or so. $5 entry on an honor system, well worth the cost.

This is a hidden gem. Absolutely beautiful garden and the opportunity to view the harbor and water from on high. Love the terraced trail leading up to the gardens. If you are able, don't drive to the entrance but walk up the trail. Even my non flower loving husband enjoyed Thuya gardens immensely. And it's free!

It is always a treat to visit this spectacular garden and the lodge is a remarkable refuge. If you are up to the slightly steep ascent, park on the lower road and walk up the terraces to enjoy the view and monument. On a recent visit, that was our plan, but the little parking lot was full below so we drove up the entry road and found plenty of parking, much to our surprise. The monarch way-station was loaded with caterpillars of all sizes during a late August visit.

I've been coming Downeast Maine for years and just found Thuya Gardens this summer. They are gorgeous, and different every time I go (3 times in a month). Amazing photo opps and quiet places to relax or read. Definitely worth a visit.

There is a small parking lot for the gardens/terraces on Route 3. Parking in this lot allows you to walk up to the gardens through the stone terraces that meander through the woodlands. Many flowers were in bloom on October 5th. The dahlias were most stunning!

A truly fantastic garden in an exquisite setting. Beautifully designed and maintained garden with lovely paths, trees, and garden details. You can drive up the hill, or walk up the winding path with amazing views. I highly recommend a visit!
