First off,my wife is a garden person,me,not so much,so after a big tasty Mexican lunch at Jalapeño in downtown Acadia after hiking up and down Cadillac Mtn.,I told my wife that if it was OK with her, I would bike to Thuya gardens and meet the family there. It turned out to be a pretty hilly 12 miles and, after... More

As an employee at the Asticou Inn, I am priveleged to have a short walk to Thuya Garden. I highly recommend the short climb (or drive) up to the incredibly colorful, fragrant garden. The precise design, and diversity, accompanied by the incredible peace of the garden make it one of the best attractions in the area. Look for bees and... More

The Garden is just as nice on a rainy overcast day as it would be any other time and is the perfect option for days like this when visiting the Bar Harbor/Acadia area. To me it had a Pacific Northwest/Japanese feel to it complete with the broad featured substantial looking carpentry in the fences, gates, and structures using large timbers.... More

The gardens are always a delight. We had some hard rain the day before, but the staff of the gardens had it looking as beautiful as always the next day. One can enjoy just the beauty or get specific as to the type of plants by their excellent plant signage. I had a couple of conversations with the gardeners who... More

Thuya Gardens and the Asticou azalea gardens are both well worth a visit. Thuya has magnificent flower displays. The lodge is also worth a visit for its' history and design. The Azalea gardens have a totally different feel, and while their highlights are the azaleas the gardens are very attractive in summer also. They are laid out as Japanese gardens... More

This place is amazing. The beauty and peacefulness of place is breathtaking to say the least. In the hustle and bustle of todays life it's a much needed getaway. The flowers were just beautiful and the grounds well kept. The lodge was open to take us back to another simpler time. It's easy to imagine what summer in this home... More

Worth the steep hike all the way up [though there is a road at the top that would help those who aren't sturdy hikers]. Late afternoon we 3 were the only ones there for a good hour. Most of the plants are labeled, in manicured beds. Not a place for children to run around, nor for loud talkers/socializing. It's contemplative... More

It is easy to miss the parking lot when you just get thrilled with the nice harbor view. It is 200 steps rock steps up the mountain before you reach the garden. There are two view point on this step trail and both give you a nice view. The garden mixed with formal English flower beds with little Japanese influences.... More

We spent a couple of hours wandering up the hill overlooking the harbor, then touring the lodge, ending with a walk through the gardens. All in all, the most relaxing thing we did all week. Beautiful.
