We came to Machias to see the falls and Jasper Beach. What a treat this gem was. You have to go to the gas station to get a great view of the full falls. The walking path that exists as the park is convenient and family friendly.

There is not much going on at this little park, but to see it and take in it's beauty is worth stopping by. There is a tranquility that overcomes a person when the person watches the falls go over the small dam where the old grist mill used to be. Just above that, a very short way, is another falls, and it is captivating to watch those too. There is a small bridge from where a person can take in all the beauty an delights of these falls. In fact, when our son comes to visit us, his favorite thing to do is get a cup of coffee at the nearby convenience store and sit by the falls to enjoy the views. His life is hectic, and this is one of the most relaxing things for him to do to unwind.

We passed this small park with the "Bad Little Falls", which is what Machias means, we learned, We saw the small sign on our way through town. It took a few minutes to find the parking area, but we were glad we did. My husband spent some time taking pictures there of the falls and rapids. It has what looks like a small pavilion, a gazebo and small grassy area. A few people were eating lunch there. Maybe some events are held in this area. We never learned any more about it. We wondered why no one ever talked about this natural attraction in the town.

Machias abounds with HISTORY. IE: The VERY 1st Naval Battle: MACHIAS, MAINE (June 1775).
Machias in Passamaquoddylimgo:"BAD LITTLE FALLS" . You can buy a book of this name at JIMS BOOKS near the "BAD LITTLE FALLS" PARK!
Take your camera, and also take the walk to the O'Brien Cemetary, as well! We picked up Info at JIMS BOOKS & the gas station.

Great little park right on the river that shows why this set of falls was called Bad Little Falls, right in downtown Machias. Nice views, and was surprised when I crossed the little pedestrian bridge to find a path along the river, in which I followed. Up a short set of steps off that path, I found an old cemetery mostly filled up with folks named O'Brien. Very old stones, but well kept area.

This is a well-known spot for taking pictures. Ironically, the falls are not usually the focus but rather the nearby bridge and surrounding buildings the adjacent park..

We read about the falls while vacationing in Jonesport, Maine. What we didn't realize was that we had driven past them several times and didn't even know they were there. There is a small parking lot and in just a few steps you can view the falls from several vantage points. They were very pretty and the water was flowing quickly. We did find the little cemetery just down the street a few houses and could see and read several old headstones. It's a nice, little scenic treat in the middle of Machias.

Hidden gem in the middle of town!! If you didn't know it was there you'd miss it for sure. No signs at all. Route 1 bridge goes right over the falls so you wouldn't see it as you drove through town.

Nice little park in the heart of small village of Machias. The falls and the reason for their red color were interesting. The falls appear to be the color of root beer and the foam continues down the river. This is a small park but a nice short walk. We discovered this while geocaching.

This is a great spot to observe the falls in all their majesty. Easy parking, relaxing, stay as long as you want because it's never crowded.
