This remote town had revolutionary sympathizers who sunk a British ship in their harbor shortly before Bunker Hill. Make sure you call to make a reservation to visit as there isn't always a docent there.

I love the Burnham Tavern! The knowledgeable guide is dressed in period costume circa 1776 and they will tell you of the first naval battle of Revolutionary war fought in the Machias Bay. Great for families!

This is a small local historical site maintained and operated by local women in the DAR. The tour included several local historical stories, including the battle of the Margharetta. Nothing slick or fancy but very personal and surprisingly interesting.

Fabulous place for history buffs! I never knew the first naval victory of the Revolutionary War was won in Machias! My guide, Bill, was very knowledgable and pleasant. Many artifacts from the Revolutionary War era.

This is a tour of a historic building in Machias. The guide had a lot of information but couldn't really answer many questions. Can only look, nothing to touch or explore. Not a good place to take small children (under 5). Would be nice if there...More

GREAT place for the fighters in the Machias Naval Battle (1775) referred to as the "BATTLE OF THE MARGARETTA". Margaretta was the Unionjack ship the Macjoas colonists won!! Check this great place out, and ALSO the GATESHOUSE in Machiasport!
