We drove by to check it out and it's closed due to the pandemic. We did walk around the outside and I was pleasantly surprised to see it's connection to Daughters of the American revolution. I attended a DAR High School and rarely come across others who are familiar with them. What a treat!

We were met by Ruth Ahrens, a DAR volunteer, who gave us more than an hour's tour of the museum on a Saturday morning. Not only did she graciously give us her time, but she was highly knowledgeable about the large number of artifacts and furnishings in the museum as well as a highly detailed knowledge of local history and lore. She ably placed local events into the broader context of the American Revolution.

This remote town had revolutionary sympathizers who sunk a British ship in their harbor shortly before Bunker Hill. Make sure you call to make a reservation to visit as there isn't always a docent there.

I love the Burnham Tavern! The knowledgeable guide is dressed in period costume circa 1776 and they will tell you of the first naval battle of Revolutionary war fought in the Machias Bay. Great for families!

Burnham is well-known to the locals and many frequent travelers. This history dates back to before the Revolutionary War and its guests are among some of the most famous people in the world. But I don't want to spoil it so you need to see it for yourself. I would call first just to make sure of their hours.
