Wild and Wind-Swept Beach
Sep 2020
What a wild beach! This community beach was about an eighth-mile (0.2 km) long. It was just a short 20-minute walk each way from and back to the ferry dock. Most of Fowler was sand strewn with seaweed. Parking for golf carts and cars was along the far side of a gravel road. We found a trash barrel but no visitor amenities – no potable water and no portable or permanent toilets. The beach offered good views of Peaks Island and passing CBL ferries. It was an excellent place for bird watching. It was also a good place to catch a sunset. Signs warned about poison ivy on a path to the beach. We most liked the views and the fine sand here; we least liked the absence of amenities.

A Rugged Place to Catch Some Summer Sun
Jul 2018 • Couples
Over recent years, not much has changed about this 850-foot (259.1 m) long, V-shaped sand and pebble community beach. It still lacks public facilities – and that’s just fine with most folks. No water spigots, no restrooms, no lifeguards, no changing areas, and no snack bars. The beach is a good spot for sunsets and for bird watching. It is 1.0 mile (1.6 km) from the Casco Bay Lines dock. Poison ivy borders several paths to the beach and signs warn of it. Summer fog is frequent. Seaweed and other tidal flotsam often obscure the beach sand. Sharp rocks lie in wait just below the low tide mark. Limited parking for island vehicles is on the inland side of the dirt access road.

A Public Beach With No Public Facilities
Jul 2014 • Couples
Fowler’s is a modest beach. There’s limited parking on one side of a dirt road. No public restrooms or showers. No lifeguard or first aid stations. No public water. No snack bars. Ocean water is a fairly frigid 65°F on a good day in high summer. Sea fog is frequent and can blow in to blot out the sun at any time of day. Three paths bordered by poison ivy and thorny sea roses lead to the V-shaped, town-owned beach. The narrow beach is often strewn with seaweed and all kinds of nautical debris. Just off the beach, the rocky sea floor easily cuts and bruises bare feet. We most like the salty scent of southwesterly sea breezes here. We least like the total lack of public facilities.
