I followed the Androscoggin for about five miles while driving up from Portland into Lewiston and it's a beautiful sight, especially in autumn when the folliage is at peak. It's a key element in making Lewiston one of NE's iconic mill towns.

Recently I moved to Lewiston Maine and was happy to see the river outside my downtown condo. Near the corner of Main and Lisbon u can stand on the bridge and see the waterfall, now without ice, rushing over the rocks. It reminds u of why the town had so many mills, many of which have been renovated and utilized for new purposes. The river can be followed by car to Portland for a 33 mile scenic (and leisurely -45 mph) drive - especially lovely in the fall. Enjoy!…

The Androscoggin River is one of the largest rivers in the state of Maine and drains the watershed all the way from the eastern side of the White Mountains national forest. The river was highly prised by the natives and became to be highly utilized by the entrepreneurs of the industrial revolution. Thanks to the naturalists and conservationists during the end of the 20th century, the river has been reclaimed and is clean again and teaming with wildlife. …
