Most mountains boast that they are family friendly but I feel often times that’s not the case. With fast slopes, bars all over and a college atmosphere it is rare that you arrive at a ski mountain and feel the family vibes. Squaw 100% gives me those. The slopes aren’t extremely fast for those higher level skiers but they are well taken care of and the staff is great. Best part is you rarely wait at the lift at all. The lodge is small but had good home cooked food and a small beer list that satisfies. I enjoyed myself and will be back!

First let me qualify this review. I used to come up here and ski with my college buddies from UMO in the early 80's. So psyched to see that this place is still open (i heard it had closed...) because we had a GREAT TIME up there. Incredible views. No crowd. Great price. No BS. We skied up there with tickets we got through the school for very very cheap. In the end, we went back because it was not only cheap, but a great eperience. Talk about bang for your buck!!...

One staff member turned our trip from an exciting birthday adventure to a terrible time. When I and another first time snowboarder kept falling on the icy trail, she took our boards away. We began to walk down the mountain when she appeared out of nowhere and yelled at us that we couldn’t walk down, and had to ride down on the back of her snowmobile separately. She also got angry at my friend for getting blood on her snowboard after she fell and hurt her finger. We asked if we would be getting a refund as we only got to snowboard for about fifteen minutes, and she snarkily told us we could probably get a voucher at the office. I told her we wouldn’t be coming back. On our way to our car, I slipped on the ice and injured my ankle, she walked by and said “did you fall or are you keeping the ground warm?” Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody.

My family and I visited Squaw four of five times this year to ski and snowboard. The conditions were great and there were never any lines. This really is a hidden gem. The staff does a great jobs keeping the mountain groomed, and when you can hit the mountain during or after fresh snow it is some of the best skiing around. The lift attendants are always helpful and looking for ways to make new skiers more comfortable on the mountain. We can't wait for next season to go back to the mountain. There is not a better value in Maine for skiing. The low prices, small crowds, great conditions and variety of trails are awesome. Don't forget to try the food at Northwoods Gourmet Girl in the lodge and check out the large selection of Maine microbrews. This mountain will be much more than you expected.
