- Gina ZSouth Hamilton, MassachusettsWonderful cruise! This was such a lovely cruise! Very timely two hour cruise from downtown Greenville and back. Clean ship with food available on board. Very relaxing, extremely friendly staff. They had blankets on board for us to use when it got chilly. Highly recommended.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 15, 2024
- Kathy MDalton, GeorgiaGrand Adventure Part 3We went to museum which was free and interesting. Decided to take the cruise. It was informative and lots of fun. The lunch was good .The staff was friendly and pleasant to be around. Great family adventure alsoVisited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 23, 2024
- Shelley GTownsend, MassachusettsVery Nice 2 Hour CruiseWe took the two hour cruise on Friday since our grandkids are both under 10 and might not have the attention span for the three hour one. We needn’t have worried- there were crafts for the kids, a chance to steer the boat and a trip to the engine room. Kids thought it was great! The ride itself was informative and relaxing. Crew very concerned about safety as they made sure the kids had life jackets as soon as we boarded. During the trip crew continually patrolled the decks to check that everyone was doing ok. Although we didn’t purchase food, the menu was very reasonable- lobster roll for $25 and most sandwiches and burgers modestly priced. We learned things about the area that were quite interesting. The museum is small but quite packed with memorabilia of bygone days on the lake. Very cute museum! Great day had by all!Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 15, 2024
- A fun afternoon activityThe crew on board were friendly and engaged. The kids got a chance to “drive” the ship, and tour the engine room in addition to seeing the sites along the lake. It was a very long time to be in a small area with two small children, but the kids craft area helped keep them occupied. Highly recommend.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 31, 2024
- HDMMCape Elizabeth, MaineEnjoyed It!Great little two hour cruise on Moosehead. Nice to be able to get on the water. Goof facilities on boat. Lunch options were perfectly fine. Looking forward to taking the 5 hour trip at some point.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 31, 2024
- A local joy and gem! This was the highlight of my summer! I would give it an Excellent+++. The day was clear so we could see Mt. Katahdin in the distance (1 of 3 days in the season that it was visible). It was quiet and the captain filled us with stories of growing up in the area and on the lake as well as local history. Crew was charming and the food was terrific. A beautifully designed museum exhibit at the dock and again most pleasant staff. I want so much to head back to this region for more exploring! Thank you all who are a part of this gem.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 11, 2024
- Katahdin CruiseWe were very impressed by the customer service Jennifer provided prior to our cruise, and the cruise itself was great. We appreciated the friendly staff, the beautiful views, and the variety of lunch & snack choices offered with fair pricing. Everything we tried tasted great (especially the warm blueberry bread pudding). We didn't make it to the museum, but hope to plan another visit soon.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 12, 2024
- Dena WKinston, North CarolinaA Worthwhile Moosehead Lake Adventure!Views were beautiful, the homemade food was great, and the information shared was interesting. It was a cold cloudier day, but still enjoyable. Seeing the engine room and the wheelhouse were also very interesting. Others have said how great the 8 hour trip is, we enjoyed the 3 hour trip and felt like that was plenty. Definitely a great way to experience the beauty and history of Moosehead Lake and the area!Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2024

We were more than happy with our ride on the Mt. Katahdin Steamboat in Greenville, Maine! Moosehead Lake, here we come! During this Covid-19 era, every precaution was in place by the crew. We were encouraged to find a spot to sit for the cruise & if we wanted to walk around the ship, to wear our masks doing so. Masks were required to board but were also for sale as we boarded. The 3 hour cruise went to Kineo Mtn & was about 1/2 up Moosehead Lake. The cruise was serene and went into a swimming spot cove of Greenville, where Kelly’s Landing is nearby. Apparently it is customary for Kelly’s to honk a horn when they see the Mt Katahdin coming by with their customers waving to the steamboat! Lots of good lake info was told to us over the intercom. We found out that the lowest depth is 275’! They serve lunch on board as they hand out menus for the customers to order from, then the staff fills the orders so the customers stay seated! We loved it all!

A comfortable cruise which gives you the basics of Moosehead. The first 1 1/2 hours are narrated which was interesting and informative. The last 1 1/2 hours they played old boat music like Rock the Boat, The theme of Gillian’s island etc. we could have done without that! Another 1 1/2 of interesting facts on the logging industry, more about the camps and characters of the region. Food on board was good but slow.

Moosehead Lake in August was a beautiful sight on the day we cruised on the "Kate". The crew were professional and friendly, the narrator knew his subject. (He's a high school teacher for goodness' sake!). Only downside was the uncomfortable, metal folding chairs for 2 senior citizens on a 3-hour ride

Had a great time on the Head of the Lake Cruise. The food was great and the narration about Moosehead Lake history was interesting and informative (and easy to hear and understand). The crew was very friendly and helpful. They work hard to make the Katahdin's cruises a success to keep the ship going. This is a great way to experience the north woods from the water and I would highly recommend it, especially to anyone interested ships and history. There are no casinos, no all you can eat buffets, no movie theaters, or water slides and that's not the point. The point, for me anyway, is to experience the Moosehead Lake scenery on a historic ship, and just relax. If you get bored after thirty minutes of "just sitting" stay home. You won't like the three hour cruise and REALLY won't like the day long cruise. However if you love the Maine woods, Moosehead Lake and its history, and just like relaxing on the water you will not be disappointed! Book a cruise and support the 'Kate' and the museum

We went on the Annual 8 Hour full Lake Cruise. With weather being questionable we were pleasantly surprised how nice it turned out to be. We found the Crew to be Personable, Knowledgable, and overall Good People. Masking and Social Distincing was practiced and respected throughout the day. The narration was informative and fun to listen too. The Contenental Breakfast had a wide assortment of drinks and treats. The Turkey Dinner was good and filling. The "Kate" was clean and in good order. The blankets provided were a plus and my Aunt from Flordia greatly appreciated them. We would strongly recommend a cruise to anyone in the Moosehead Lake Region.

Did the Sugar Island tour, we had a blue bird day, temp in the low 70s, couldn't as for better weather. The tour was well worth it, knowledgeable crew, great views, sat forward, top deck, in front of the captains wheel house, truly a great trip, narration on the way out, 18 miles, highly recommend.

This is an amazing trip! I can't say enough positive things about it. Moosehead Lake is the largest lake in ME, 40 miles long and 18 miles at it's widest point. The trip around Mount Kineo was stunning as was the fall foliage! The narration was very interesting and clearly heard and understood. So many of these types of 'cruise' narrations are garbled, static-y and just plain annoying. Included in the ticket price was brunch, drinks throughout the entire trip, i.e. soda, iced tea, water, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, a small brunch and then a full turkey dinner topped off with pie ala mode! Lap blankets were provided, tours of the engine room and a chance to drive the boat. The modest price for this 8 hour foliage excursion was only $80! Magnificent trip! TY to the wonderful, friendly and accommodating crew of the Katahdin! <3

I’m actually on this cruise right now and can’t wait to get off! The museum is more like a small collection of artifacts. The commentary while on the cruise is lacking in both interesting information and entertaining delivery. The food we ordered took AN HOUR. We turned in our food order as we boarded the ship at 12:15, we didn’t receive the food until 1:30, wish I would have known as I could have brought a small snack. The food is nothing fancy, definitely not like a restaurant, it’s more like a snack bar. Only 2 or 3 tables on the whole boat so you eat with a to-go box balanced on your lap. They should offer a smaller menu so they can serve the food more efficiently. THE CRUISE IS TOO LONG! 3 hours is waaay too long for a cruise with little to do other than admire the scenery. Another cruise company could easily come into this town and blow Katahdin Cruises out of the water.

We are very sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience aboard the Katahdin. As a nonprofit that benefits the community we are very proud of our boat and our museum. We worked very hard this year to serve all of our passengers in spite of limitations imposed by Covid-19, which resulted in the delayed food service and the small number of tables. Please feel free to call us at 207-695-2716 - we'd like to persuade you to give us another chance!

Our cruise on Moosehead Lake aboard tye KATADIN was very pleasant. Although the day had been hot and humidity, the cool breezes from the lake made this a very welcome trip.
The staff were very approachable and friendly. The narrator for the first part of the trip was native to the area and a history teacher in the local school system who circulated among the passengers to answer questions.
The lunch food was delicious! There were several options and each sandwich was enough for two people.
The ship itself is historical but very comfortable and seaworthy. It is a trip well worth the price of $40.00/per person plus tax.
The scenery was beautiful, reminding us of previous cruise along the Alaskan coast. Many opportunities for picture taking and video-making.
I hope we have tye opportunity to travel with you again in the future!

My wife and I took the 3 hour Sugar Island Cruise on a perfect fall day in October. The water was calm and the fall foliage was spectacular. The crew was great. The narration was very well done, and from our seats at the bow, was clear and easy to understand. A very enjoyable way to cap our 3 days in the area. 3 hours was a good length. We liked that they boarded based on when tickets were purchased. People queued up well in advance, so if it had been done any other way, it would have been chaotic, and uncomfortable. Our only suggestion is that since there were so many people there when we arrived 30 minutes prior, they blocked the sign near the gangway saying that we needed to pick up tickets in the office (we had purchased on line). Perhaps putting up another sign at the approach to the waiting area would help. This didn't cause a problem since the ticket person anticipated the issue and came out near the loading area with all the unclaimed tickets. Something to be aware of is the limited parking at the dock can't accommodate a full boat.

You probably will not see Moose from the cruise. You're best bet is to book a Moose Safari and a local experienced moose expert will take you on an adventure to see moose. Last year we saw 3 moose, 2 baby bears, and deer. This year we saw a pair of young moose as we canoed around the lake, took a great video and some pictures, I'd share with you but don't think I can post. Our guide was both times Mark Patterson.

We have handicapped accessible restrooms at our shoreside museum and the bottom deck of the boat is wheelchair accessible. Restrooms on board have high thresholds and a person would need assistance to use them. The second deck of the boat is not wheelchair accessible.

2017 cruises will operate from June 23 to October 8. Day cruises run Tuesday through Saturday and most cruises depart at 12:30pm, returning at 3:30pm. We do a 5 hour Kineo cruise every 3 or 4 weeks on Wednesday - these cruises depart at 11am. We also offer a number of special evening cruises.
After Fly-in in September we take a few days off, so we will not be cruising as usual on September 12, 13 or 14.
The museum will be open from 9am to 5pm Tuesday through Saturday and from 10am to 4pm Sunday and Monday.
Within about a week our full schedule should be available on the website - you can also purchase tickets online.
