Had a great time on the Head of the Lake Cruise. The food was great and the narration about Moosehead Lake history was interesting and informative (and easy to hear and understand). The crew was very friendly and helpful. They work hard to make the Katahdin's cruises a success to keep the ship going. This is a great way to experience the north woods from the water and I would highly recommend it, especially to anyone interested ships and history. There are no casinos, no all you can eat buffets, no movie theaters, or water slides and that's not the point. The point, for me anyway, is to experience the Moosehead Lake scenery on a historic ship, and just relax. If you get bored after thirty minutes of "just sitting" stay home. You won't like the three hour cruise and REALLY won't like the day long cruise. However if you love the Maine woods, Moosehead Lake and its history, and just like relaxing on the water you will not be disappointed! Book a cruise and support the 'Kate' and the museum

We took the four hour Mt. Kineo cruise on October 1st, just as the foliage around Moosehead was starting to peak. It was a beautiful cruise on a beautiful, historic boat. Despite the fact that the Katahdin (the "Kate") is over a hundred years old, the ride was smooth with minimal engine noise (on the top deck, anyway. Not so much on the bottom deck, but you should check it out anyway for how different the perspective is between top and bottom decks). You'd be hard pressed to find a more peaceful, scenic boat ride in New England. The captain of the ship was, if I heard correctly, the captain of the same ship back when the Kate hauled logs across Moosehead. He had a wealth of great stories and, being a life-time resident, was very knowledgeable about the area.

Recommendations: 1) buy your tickets early. Boarding, from what I gathered, is not first come first serve, but in order of when each party bought their tickets. 2) When the boat gets close to Kineo (where it will turn around), head up to the bow on the top deck. The up close and personal views of the rock cliffs are absolutely incredible.

I give the Katahdin Cruise four stars based on averaging out five stars for the cruise itself and three stars for the overcrowded conditions on the ship. My wife and I were one of the last people to board, and there were folding chairs set up in every nook and cranny on both the upper and lower deck of the ship. Problem is, I still had to stand most of the cruise, because I could only find one chair for my wife. Moreover, it was hard to move around the ship during the cruise, because everywhere I went to take pictures, I ended up standing in front of someone seated around the deck and blocking their view. The cruise itself is very much worth taking to experience Moosehead Lake in all its glory, and the captain and crew were most accommodating and informative. But at some point, the sheer size of the crowd can compromise an experience. I think the Katahdin should reconsider maximum capacity on the ship. Just because you can book 150-200 passengers on a cruise does not mean that you should.

I had a lovely day aboard the Kate! The captain shared A TON of local history about Moosehead Lake and the surrounding towns and people who discovered/settled that part of Maine. It was a nice, relaxing 3 hour cruise and the staff aboard were also friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend this cruise!

We were more than happy with our ride on the Mt. Katahdin Steamboat in Greenville, Maine! Moosehead Lake, here we come! During this Covid-19 era, every precaution was in place by the crew. We were encouraged to find a spot to sit for the cruise & if we wanted to walk around the ship, to wear our masks doing so. Masks were required to board but were also for sale as we boarded. The 3 hour cruise went to Kineo Mtn & was about 1/2 up Moosehead Lake. The cruise was serene and went into a swimming spot cove of Greenville, where Kelly’s Landing is nearby. Apparently it is customary for Kelly’s to honk a horn when they see the Mt Katahdin coming by with their customers waving to the steamboat! Lots of good lake info was told to us over the intercom. We found out that the lowest depth is 275’! They serve lunch on board as they hand out menus for the customers to order from, then the staff fills the orders so the customers stay seated! We loved it all!

We went on the Annual 8 Hour full Lake Cruise. With weather being questionable we were pleasantly surprised how nice it turned out to be. We found the Crew to be Personable, Knowledgable, and overall Good People. Masking and Social Distincing was practiced and respected throughout the day. The narration was informative and fun to listen too. The Contenental Breakfast had a wide assortment of drinks and treats. The Turkey Dinner was good and filling. The "Kate" was clean and in good order. The blankets provided were a plus and my Aunt from Flordia greatly appreciated them. We would strongly recommend a cruise to anyone in the Moosehead Lake Region.

Moosehead Lake in August was a beautiful sight on the day we cruised on the "Kate". The crew were professional and friendly, the narrator knew his subject. (He's a high school teacher for goodness' sake!). Only downside was the uncomfortable, metal folding chairs for 2 senior citizens on a 3-hour ride

This was a lovely cruise for the two of us, both seniors. Spending a few hours on this slow-moving historic vessel was the perfect way to experience the beauty and shear vastness of the lake. The cruise was sold out, yet it didn't feel overcrowded. Passengers and crew were friendly and helpful. The cruise was very well-organized; narration interesting; food just fine. I got to talk with nearby passengers from North Carolina and Illinois! I'm from Massachusetts, and have spent quite a bit of time in Maine. This cruise helped me appreciate the natural beauty and history of this unique state even more.

Awesome night cruise aboard the Kate. The crew is always professional and helpful. People of all abilities are welcomed and accommodated for. This was a night cruise for +21 with adult refreshments, food, a live band and dancing. It was tons of fun. Great bluesy band. Lots of time for dinner in town before boarding.

It was a beautiful day for a ride aboard the Katahdin on Moosehead Lake. The crew was fantastic. The captain was wonderful and filled with information and fun facts about the Katahdin, the lake and surrounding areas. I also liked the way they boarded passengers. Passengers were called according to when their reservation was made. It meant there wasn't a lot of jockeying to get on board first to get the "best" seats. I wish more venues would learn from them. When I am back in the area I will definitely plan to take another ride on the Katahdin!
