I have had a number of guided tours, mostly for birding. I went out two mornings with Chris with the main intent of photographing Common Loons, hopefully with young chicks. Chris delivered in a big way. I got the mom with two chicks both days. Chris put me in excellent positions to photograph the birds and was able to get very close without disturbing them. In addition, I saw a number of moose both on the trip to the lake and on the lake. The highlight was a mom with two young ones. Again we got closer to them than I would have thought possible. You may pay a little more to go with Chris but it is more than worth it as you will not be in a crowd or with an relatively inexperienced guide. When viewing wildlife the fewer people the better in my view and Chris keeps his excursions to an optimum number of people. I would definitely go with him again and would recommend booking at least a couple of days to better ensure good weather and optimize your chance to get that special viewing of wildlife.

As a wildlife and nature photographer, I hired Chris Young to help me find moose subjects and autumn foliage in the Greenville, Maine region for my photography business. This young man delivered on my request far beyond my expectations. During my time in the field with Chris, I photographed more than fifty moose. At one location we set up among the pin cherries and poplar leaves as Chris started to call. His 2013 Moose calling national championship skills brought four moose cows and one bull moose to within 50 yards of us. His regional, habitat, and wildlife knowledge is remarkable and his efforts to produce moose sightings is exceptional. Chris knows how to adapt to weather variables that causes wildlife to change their patterns. I was able to take portrait level images of large bull moose where you can count the hairs on their chin and eyelashes. If you have a desire to explore the North woods of Maine in search of the majestic moose, I highly recommend Youngs Guide Service. I plan to return next year and use Young's guide service again.

I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to photograph moose to highly consider this venue. I would highly recommend a minimum of three days with Chris. Potential viewing is a brief time early in the morning. By 8 am the moose are finished feeding and have returned to the heavy wooded areas making photography difficult. Weather is critical to viewing so by having several days planned if you encounter poor weather viewing conditions you have other days to view. I planned my trip during the Rut when moose activity is at its peak and they are more attracted to calling. As a wildlife photographer, I have learned over the years, wildlife viewing is highly unpredictable based on a variety of variables. A minimum three day trip will help to increase your chances of viewing the elusive Bull moose. I stayed at the Wilson Pond cabins that reside on Wilsons pond. Another great venue.

This was an amazing trip, I would highly recommend using Chris. We went up to Greenville just do do this tour, and it greatly exceeded expectations. Chris picked us up around 5 am and took us to areas he knows moose are likely to be, and also pointed out interesting things in the area. Over the course of about 3 hours, we saw 11 moose, including bulls, cows, and a mother with a baby. Chris is extremely knowledgeable and can answer any questions about moose or the area. When we were booking the trip they were very responsive and happy to suggest places to stay as well (we stayed at Wilson Pond Cabins, which I'd also highly recommend).

I booked a morning tour for moose photography with Chris. Being from 6 hours away I need to be able to get around safely in the dawn hours in an unfamiliar region-- not easy in moose country! Chris picked me up in town before dawn. Upon arriving to the desired area we immediately saw moose... and the sightings didn't stop for 4 hours! 24 moose seen total including 6 bulls, 5 babies!! I was delighted that he did all the work maneuvering the truck, telling me exactly where to look, pinpointing and orienting me with his binoculars before I snapped pics with my telephoto. He made sure I got the shots I wanted, while also enjoying just being in the moose's presence. Chris understands the aspects of light and composition helpful in photography. I never felt like we were intruding or annoying the animals in any way. Chris has a gentle nature and a confidence about his locations which makes the tour efficient, but pleasurable. He spent time on the best possible photo opps for me and provided a great number of varying locations for different settings. Note: 24 moose is a record # of sightings according to Chris, however after my experience I'm confident you'll have an amazing and exciting time no matter what you see if you go with him. I'm already planning my next trip just to be able to go moose watching with Chris Young again!!

We love Maine and a trip there is not complete without an moose sighting experience with Chris. My husband and I had our travel plans scheduled and Beth was so kind in scheduling a tour for me at the very last minute!! Chris picked me up early in the AM at our B&B and we headed out before the sun came up. What was amazing about this tour is that we actually got out of the truck and walked down to a bog while Chris used his infamous moose calling technique. We saw two bull moose in the bog, several females and a young bull. Chris knows all the best locations for sightings and is so knowledgeable about moose and their habitat. He is also a native of Greenville and is so well loved and respected in his hometown. He's a dog dad and I love hearing stories about how he takes his pups out into the snow and they actually find moose antlers after they've shed. Next up on my bucket list is to visit in the winter and go out on a snowmobile adventure with Young's Guide Service. I highly recommend to anyone that wants to experience the natural beauty of Maine, a tour with Chris Young.

My photography moose tour with Young's Guide Service was set up effortlessly with Beth. She was extremely pleasant and helpful, and stayed in touch with important information. I met Chris at 4:15AM, and explored many locations by truck, by canoe, and by foot. Chris has an understanding and appreciation of the Maine woods that brought me back to my childhood summers on Moosehead Lake with my grandparents. His vast knowledge of the wilderness is a rare find these days, as is his pure love and respect for the area and wildlife living there. The morning ended with us seeing several moose; including cows and bulls, a calf, and a yearling, as well as a nesting loon and a few busy beavers. Chris has an authentic and refreshing personality. His excitement and desire to share his deep knowledge and true passion for what he does so well was beyond incredible. I highly recommend Young's Guide Service to anyone wanting to make the most of their Moosehead Lake Region experience. Whether you are visiting from out of state, or a local wanting to see the area through the eyes of someone who knows it well, Beth and Chris will provide a phenomenal experience for all.

My wife and I asked Young's Guide Service to give us a sunrise moose photography tour during our visit to Greenville. Chris, the owner of the guide service, is a wonderful source of information about moose, the Moosehead Lake area and is just fun to talk with. We saw six moose on our trip and we highly recommend Chris should you want to go on a moose tour.

We hoped to see 1 moose and we saw 10!!!

We set out with low expectations given the 'no guarantee of moose sightings' but are very happy to report we were wrong. Chris picked us up at our resort and began with a reality check of the current environment - atypical weather conditions including extreme temperatures and drought have disrupted normal moose behaviors. With that information in mind, we set out for backwoods areas beyond expectations! It was rapidly apparent how much Chris loved these animals, the environment and Maine! His passion was infectious, drawing more and more inquiry from us. It was invigorating learning and experiencing the live environments of these beautiful animals! Consistent with the concept that 'it's the journey, not the destination', we agreed that the 3 1/2 hours spent with Chris was worth it even if we hadn't seen any moose. What was significant for us was experiencing that Chris's excitement when encountering a moose was equal too or exceeding ours!

Can't wait to go back with family for more Young's Guide Service tours!

The Moose safari was a favorite activity of our Maine vacation. On our private tour, we saw 9 moose including 4 cows, 2 babies, a yearling bull and 2 yearling cows. Chris Young, owner, is an excellent tour guide and moose spotter. He knows so much about moose, their habitats and their behaviors that it definitely enhances the experience. His moose calls can really make them give you a second look. Chris and Beth are dedicated to making the moose experience great so we definitely recommend this early morning private tour. You won't be disappointed.

Tonight we were lucky enough to call Youngs Guide Service just after they had a cancellation, so we were able to spend a fantastic evening with Chris! He picked us up at our campsite and drove us north into remote areas we could have never found on our own! Chris has lived here all of his life and has hunted and fished in all the surrounding areas! He is so friendly, knowledgable and fun to talk to along the way! We saw a moose at our first stop..it was running away so a very quick sighting. At the next stop we got to watch one for a long time!
She was in the water pulling greens out to eat. It was awesome to watch. At stop 3 we saw another in the water and one off in the distance on a mountain side. Every stop brought amazing views so I would have had a great time even if we wouldn't have spotted moose. Just when we thought the opportunity was over and we headed back, there were two more along the route home!! These two put on quite a show for a while! The female was obviously mad at the bull! What a great night of viewing! I would highly recommend Chris at Young's Guide Service but call ahead for a reservation because everyone is finding out how great he is, and he is booking up fast!!!! (We are hoping for another cancellation in his schedule so he can take us fishing next!!)
