Riding the heritage rail cars on the Downeast Scenic Railroad was a very enjoyable experience. The weather was perfect on my trip — sunny, about 65 degrees — so I spent some time seared inside one of the covered cars and some time in one...More

A lovely picturesque 90 minute train ride on a very sweet, all volunteer historic railroad. Help them to continue this preservation effort and sit back and enjoy the scenery in the peaceful countryside. Even spot an eagle on it's nest in season! The crew is...More

This is a great train ride. We are seniors and enjoyed the history of the train, railway and the ride. The train only runs on Saturday and Sunday. I think at 10:30 and 1:30. I would recommend this as it was well worth the money...More

This was just a nice leisurely ride to learn of the railroad. We sat in the open car at tables. Weather was beautiful and a staff knowledgeable and friendly. This is only part of the railroad and monies are used to hopefully expand. All volunteer...More

It was a short train ride, I expected a longer ride. I suppose the ride will be longer some day, but for now I think it is a really short train trip, sorry

The 2 1/2 hour train ride town, forest, and wetlands and we learned some things about the area, though the train whistle covered up much of the narrative. The most interesting part was when, at the end, an engine hooked up to the end of...More

Ten of us went on this train ride and we all enjoyed very much. The volunteers who staff the train go out of their way to make it fun and interesting. We sat outdoors in an open car but there are enclosed cars as well....More

Dogs are allowed on the Downeast Scenic Railroad as long as the horn or other people in close proximity don't bother your pet.

Hello, have you ridden the DownEast Scenic Railroad train and do you think it's worth $15 for a 90 minute, 10 mile round trip ride? Is the scenery lovely? We'll be there next week. Is there another scenic railway around? Thank you so much, appreciate your help and advice.

I've never taken the trail but I can't imagine that the scenery is really that lovely. I think you'd be better off taking a boat tour in Bar Harbor than the train ride unless you just really love trains.
