We had a couple wonderful trips on the train, and they were very informative, interaction was awesome, and the folks volunteering were super friendly. We weren't packed in like sardines, which was wonderful and added to the personal feeling we wanted and received. There was trivia narration, sights to see, history to hear and see alongside the rails...so much fun!! My 4 year old grandson actually cried when we were pulling back into the railyard, he didn't want it to end. We'll definitely be back aboard soon.

Nice family trip, quite informative and enjoyable. Fall colors were beautiful. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The outdoir car was nicely set up.

If we could give it a half star, we would. Not really any worthwhile views you can't see from driving Rt 1, & the street view is better b/c its the front of buildings, not the trashy back yards. Way too much time stopped/turning & generally with poor scenery. From the description we were expecting an off-the-main path ride with lots of nature views & opportunities to see wildlife. The only signs of wildlife were a couple large osprey nests & a beaver dam, but no actual animals. The trees are so close to the train they aren't really very scenic. The staff and everything else was great, but this is not a worthwhile 2 hours spent in Maine.

Thank you for your review. We apologize that the train ride did not meet your expectations. Our train ride passes through natural animal habitats, however we, unfortunately, cannot guarantee that the animals will be visible when the train passes through. Our all-volunteer staff is always working hard throughout the season to restore more of the train's rail line to offer an expanded trip in the future. If you would like to discuss your trip with us further, please don't hesitate to contact us at 1-866-449-7245. Thank you!

We took the 1:30pm trip last Sunday. Our family truly enjoyed this trip, and we appreciate how warm and friendly the team was. My toddler was beside himself with happiness to be in this fun train ride. The weather did not cooperate but we still had a lot of fun. The two ways the train turned around was interesting. We will certainly be back. Other things to consider: (1) there are picnic style tables so you can bring lunch and enjoy it during the ride, (2) the train will move through both a nature view, and Ellsworth

We were looking for something to do with our 8 month old for the day after we visited acadia national park and figured we would try the train. As fall is approaching I saw scenic in the name I thought this was perfect but I found the scenic part very lacking. The whole ride is right next to the road and you're not really seeing anything new if that's the road you drove in on. You do go over a bridge and there's a pretty water feature but nothing spectacular. You drive through some wetlands and there are powerlines with osprey and eagle nests but we didn't see anything. We never saw any wildlife of any kind. Generally we weren't impressed and expected more. Our little one got pretty fussy as there was nothing happening. However, if you're a train enthusiast, there's interesting history on the engines and the passenger cars.
