A wonderful railway station, and journey. All provided by volunteers and with an end goal of reaching Louth and also further north.

We popped into the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway for the first time, on route from Norfolk to the North Yorkshire Moors. No trains as such were running, but the resident diesel shunter was in operation, offering driver experiences. My husband had a go at driving (he saw the shunter when it was still in BR service as Lincoln Central station pilot, way back in 1986) & loved it! All the staff were friendly & we would thoroughly recommend a visit, if you are in the area. We will definitely return next year & look forward to the future expansion of this line.

A great friendly railway and the only preserved standard gauge railway in the area. They have plans to expand at both ends of their current line. Most of the action is at Ludborough where there are shops, a museum and a great cafe in a first class carriage. At North Thoresby, the current end of line there is a great pub, and a waiting room with books to read while you pass away the time waiting for a train. On the day we went which was a Wednesday they were running a hourly service

We visited the railway because my husband had a signal box experience. The signal box experience was excellent - he really enjoyed it. The rest of us (wife, 2 teens and a dog) had a lovely ride on the train and a nice walk in Thoresby. The staff were friendly and helpful - all excellent. So far we have a 5 star rating - it was wonderful so why only 3 stars…?
THE FOOD in the buffet car was profoundly disappointing. We had lunch on arrival. It’s ok if you like bacon or sausage. But one of my children is vegetarian. I asked if it would be possible to do a cheese roll or something but all they have is sausage or bacon. I asked if there was anything available and was told ‘we have toasted tea cakes - is that vegetarian enough for you?’ That seemed rather rude but I maintained my cheery disposition and got her a toasted tea cake and some crisps. I’m gluten intolerant. There was clearly nothing for me - I had crisps and a bar of chocolate for lunch. I later had a flapjack. Come on - surely some cheese and maybe some gluten free rolls isn’t too much to ask?! The moral of the story is that if you’re vegetarian or have special dietary requirements, bring a picnic. At the very least, can I suggest that LWR display clearly on their website that they are u able to cater for vegetarians or special dietary requirements.

Thank you for your comment and I appreciate your time to give us your thoughts, comments and feedback.
Firstly let me apologise for the comments you found rude, it is certainly not in our interest to have our visiting guests leave unhappy and we certainly do not enjoy receiving bad feedback.
I can confirm that I will send this over to the management team for their reference.
In regards to displaying the information on the website, I can confirm that although the website needs updating since we opened our new buffet car, some of the information is still correct in that we ask for anyone visiting to let us know in advance of any special dietary requirements so that we can avoid instances like this and make sure we can accommodate any requirements.
We certainly have no issues accommodating dietary requirements but like some other establishments, notice is to be given to allow us to get the items in, it is not necessary viable to purchase all different dietary products in advance as without the custom for them, it would be a loss of money if the food items went to waste….
I hope you can understand that as a volunteer staffed heritage railway, all money made goings straight back into the railway, so if we purchased gluten free rolls for example and didn’t sell any, then they would go to waste which has a knock on effect that we lose that money rather then it goes back into the railway.
I do hope this helps you understand and gives you a better understanding,
Best wishes. Marc - LWR Public Relations

Visited with our nearly two year old grandson. Lovely welcoming small steam railway ideal for young children. The railway has a cafe, small museum, play area, toilets and free parking. The ticket prices are very affordable and good value.

We went on the Easter Sunday event with our daughter and 2 year old granddaughter. Beautiful day and had a great time on the Easter egg hunt.
Just disappointed that our granddaughter was given a paw print to hand to the Easter bunny on the train but the bunny only passed us once and wasn’t collecting the paw prints. I’m assuming that the children were to receive an Easter egg from the bunny. None on the first trip today did. I must add that he/she wasn’t very friendly with the children which I must admit disappointed me.
As we were leaving in the car the next trip was just pulling out of the station and we saw the bunny on the train with an Easter basket. I can only assume the children on that trip were the lucky ones.
I did query this in the ticket office but didn’t get any answer as the gentleman was busy.

Hello there, thank you for your review and feedback. Firstly please accept my apologies for the disappointment experienced on your visit and I would like to offer an explanation to what happened. We don’t wish for anyone to leave disappointed, that is totally not the experience we wish to portrait.
Usually for certain events, it is myself who does the entertainment / events as you will see from our previous reviews but unfortunately this Easter after the programme had been published, due to personal circumstances, I couldn’t attend the Easter event. My colleague stepped in and got a bunny costume and handed out the Easter eggs.
You are correct that usually a paw print is given out with the tickets and then the Easter bunny will go and collect the paw prints and give out an Easter egg to the children, unfortunately he did make an error where he didn’t bring enough eggs onto the first train as he thought a basket full would be enough and realised that he ran out through the journey. I can confirm though after speaking with him, that people did receive the eggs up until the time he ran out and realised his mistake.
We are all volunteers and sometimes we learn from mistakes and I can only offer my sincere apologies for this occurrence. This explains why you would have seen him on the second train with a basket, again we take pointers from experience and we use this to make improvements and learn. I know this isn’t the experience it should be or that it changes your experience but I just want to reassure you that this isn’t a usual occurrence and can only sincerely apologise that it happened and you experienced it.
I hope you will give us another chance and come back to visit us in the future and I can also confirm I have passed this over to the management team for their reference.
Best wishes, Marc - LWR Public Relations

Hello, Marc here from the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway. We are a dog friendly attraction, you can bring dogs onboard in our 'dog friendly' carriages, we have an dog friendly area at the rear of the cafe. Dogs aren't allowed in our gift shop however, if you need anyone to look after your dog while you browse our shop then we are all here to help.
We supply fresh water and anything else you require, If I can help with anything further...do get in touch.
Best wishes. Marc

What’s the access for dogs like in the cage and museum?
mmyers2019
Lincoln, UK161 contributions
Hello Adelle. Marc here....I'm guessing that's a spelling mistake and you mean shop and museum... unfortunately our shop and museum are the only 2 areas where dogs aren't permitted I'm afraid however we have plenty of Volunteers about who will happily look after your pet while you have a look inside and we have a handrail fencing next to the shop entrance where you can tie up your pet aswell and both options are safe enough so don't worry
Hope that helps. Best wishes. Marc.

Hello Jessica. I work at the railway and can assist you with your question. Firstly we have car parking available and it's not far from the train station. We have a disabled toilet available and both platforms have wheelchair access as they are ramped. We have a buffet car where you can get refreshments with wheelchair ramp at one end but you are able to take refreshments on board the train aswell.
We have a ramp and double doors which gives access on board the train so you can visit and stay in the wheelchair if necessary...ride and enjoy our railway without worry.
We have plenty of people with disabilities and wheelchairs visit us and our volunteers are always on hand to help with any access and help.
Please do come visit and we will look after you all and make sure you have a great visit with us.

Can you tell me when you hope to have a longer running track with your extension?
Philip E
Mablethorpe, United Kingdom11 contributions
This is a question that is often asked, however over the past year the maintenance and improvement of the existing line has had to take priority.
Once this is completed we plan to start work on an extension to the line for another half a mile south to Pear Tree Lane, which is the next road crossing. There are two issues: cost of materials (which will be around £250,000); and manpower (the LWR is run entirely by a volunteer workforce).
This will be the first stage of our long-term objective of getting the railway back to Louth.
