An opportunity to get a feel for the history of the region. You wander the site freely guided by a leaflet and there are signs to read if you want to. The fort is generally bare but the building itself is in good condition so the audio speaker adds to the experience allowing you to mentally fill in the details of how it must have been bustling in use use over the centuries. There is also the views as you wander around, you can take in the many vistas from the high points of the fort down the valley. There were some exhibitions of history and photography to look at and take in. There were also some exhibitions with manikins that looked like they has had better days.
A good place to spend an hour or two while in the area while touring around.

We had a bit of time to pass in the area so we went to have a look at Fort Queyras, which dates back to the 12th century. It was interesting rather than sensational. Too bad that it has been chopped and changed so much over time; it would have been great to see it restored to the condition it was in after Vauban strengthened the fort in the 17th century. The fort is privately owned and changes admission, which seemed quite reasonable at the price charged (E7.50). Worth a visit, but perhaps not to go a long way to see.

A historical landmark!

I will not get into details which are all on the internet however, this visit is a must when visiting the Valley of the Queyras!! Make sure you look up their hours as they tend to change quite often.
Also, it is closed during winter months.

This jewel is actually privately owned and was recently put up for sale on a French online classifieds site :(
The community is trying to gather in order to find donations and buy it back to develop it into a little hotel/museum/restaurant etc...
Great initiative!!

An amazing castle on top of a hill, partly medieval and partly made by Vauban. The visit takes about one hour, there are explanatory panels in French, English and Italian and arrows guiding you from one place to another. Very beautiful and very interesting. Ideal if you travel with children who also find dedicated panels.... Absolutely not to miss if you're in the area.z
