Artist rite of passage
Aug 2018
Revisited Haystack after to many years have gone by. I attended in 1977, Last month we made a journey to see Haystack at a open house end of session. It was fantastic. So many improvements and so many things remained as I remembered. This is truly a special place that will draw you back/

Amazing craft school experience!
May 2018
Haystack School of Crafts is world-renown for a reason. The summer session facilitators are leaders in the art and craft world, the class sizes are small enough for individual attention, the facilities are beautiful and well-equipped, and the food is exceptional. I've attended summer sessions and weekend workshops, and each time I come away enriched, invigorated, and ready to plunge in to my craft and classroom with new vigor.

The location is perfect, consists of a group of beautifully designed and very functional workshops. All building are connected with with walk ways, open spaces and steps. There are also dormitories and a dinning hall. Would love to take a wood working or ceramic class here some day in the future.

Two Weeks Lost
Aug 2015 • Solo
Did a 2 week workshop. Lovely setting. Great and friendly staff. Workshop a waste of time. Based on cost, lost time and no response to a lengthy letter explaining my disatisfaction, I would not go back.

A privilege and a pleasure to work there...

Haystack is one of those places that makes you stop, slowing down to the swell of the sea, the smell of the trees and the song of the birds and gulls. It's an artist retreat that makes you make beautiful things. I loved it.

A creative person's paradise!
As a crafter I have visited my friends taking courses at Haystack. These courses are not cheap. You can have a day course or a two week course. Beginners as well as professionals congregate here in this rustic place. Haystack is located in Deer Isle. Last year in the September issue of Downeast Magazine, the premier magazine of Maine. The article is called "Crafted with Care". You may order this back issue for about $5. As a former Art teacher I highly recommend Haystack.

Just visited the site

I just visited the site. The store has many useful art tools and books. Setting is stunning. Other than this, you are not allowed to see anything else. So may be on certain days when there is a tour you can see more. Many steps down to the flag pole.

Artistic Heaven

Just finished a two week workshop with Mark Hartung in mixed media. If you are a maker, you MUST go to Haystack. You have nothing to do except attend great workshops, lectures and slide presentations. The food supplied by the excellent kitchen will astound you.
