About
Nervous Nellie's is a cottage industry (jams and chutneys made with mostly Maine fruit) in a cottage. It's a sculpture studio and acres of whimsical sculptures and installations of American icons like the general store, the juke joint, a western town complete with saloon, sheriff, jail, Chinese laundry, fortune teller, church, Grail castle and wizard's tower all made in Peter Beerits's quirky style, using re-purposed "junk" from the island dump and countless old barns. Little ones enjoy the sandbox under a grape arbor, while parents relax in Adirondack chairs close at hand. Something for everyone here!

Once a Year, We HAVE to Visit!
May 2021 • Friends
We have been returning here at least every other year since the early 1990s. ALWAYS some new installation to see assembled by Peter Beerit. We bring ALL of the out of state house guests we can down to see his 'found materials' constructions and come home with crates of the jams and jellies. A modest cafe to taste test them, and enjoy some bakery items with coffee, etc, and find some unique, usually artist-made or Maine-oriented, gifts to fill another crate. And, do not forget to drive to the end of Sunshine Road to visit the grounds of The Haystack School of Crafts (SERIOUS arts and crafts) where they have artist residencies and craft training weeks all summer. Drive off with some shellfish from Jones Lobster, home office also on that road, but not selling from that site, an INSTITUTION of local Maine shellfish harvesting and sales. These ALL are GEMS of the State of Maine.

Jellies and Art
Aug 2021
Walking around the property. Such a lovely setting with the woods and the sculptures around. Nervous Nellies had wonderful Jams and gifts on offer and is lovely to see. The best is Peter Art, whether you like it or not it is incredible.

Worth a stop.

Great stop. I'm so glad someone is Stonington mentioned it to us. It was so fun to explore the grounds and the art. I think this was my husbands favorite part of the trip to Maine, he loves upcycled art.

A magical sort of place
Aug 2021
We were told to stop in at Nervous Nellies, and though we thought that there were just some jams and chutneys, the whole place is really a surprise.

They do have some good chutneys, jams and rubs, but the whole place is a work of art. From a recreation of a bit of an old west town, to the creation of little spaces all through the adjacent woods with figures make of old junk, small gardens built in the empty shells of some old cars. The creativity is magical, and something not to be missed.

Wow what a cool place to visit. The Sculpture garden was a big surprise. The balsam pillows smell great. The fish placemats look nice.

Each visit to Nervous Nellie's is a treat. The sculpture village keeps growing - a fun adventure for all ages. And the jams, chutneys and conserves are DELICIOUS.

Whimsical, creative, one-of-a-kind!

Nice day-excursion to the playground of a creative artist One can lose oneself in contemplation of the artist's mind while wandering about the grounds. Great Jams and Jellies, too!

Don't Miss This Gem, we plan to bring the grandchildren
Nov 2019
My husband normally doesn't like to stop at "cutesy" locations. He was so entertained by the exhibits and reading the clever captions that he explored every building and exhibit. Blueberry Razz is our favorite jam which is a much appreciated gift. We have purchased the bird houses and receive thank you notes from recipients. Our favorite is the sturdy 3-legged cherry wood stool of exceptional beauty and quality craftsmanship, which you can get custom engraved on the bottom side of the seat. Nervous Nellies is the 'fun place' on our list during each visit to Maine. Every thing they sell is cool, but nothing tops the atmosphere of entertaining creations of Peter Beerits.

Quirky destination with a family fun atmosphere. Plan on spending at least an hour to absorb the surrounding art installation composed of found objects and imagination. You will feel like a kid again exploring all the wonderfully vivid and unique pieces. Adorable jam and preserve shop with additional tempting finds. One of a kind experience.

A gem!
Aug 2020 • Family
Nervous nellies is one of a kind. The jam is delicious but never ever will you get to experience the wonderland that they’ve created throughout the woods while you’re purchasing jam. It is truly worth the trip.
