Nervous Nellie's is a cottage industry (jams and chutneys made with mostly Maine fruit) in a cottage. It's a sculpture studio and acres of whimsical sculptures and installations of American icons like the general store, the juke joint, a western town complete with saloon, sheriff, jail, Chinese laundry, fortune teller, all made in Peter Beerits's quirky style, using re-purposed "junk" from the island dump and countless old barns. Try free jam samples in the shop or have a homemade scone with jam in the tea room. Something for everyone here!

You can stretch your legs here and stroll thru the woods checking out the whimsical and clever art which is made by using recycled metal, wood, plastic and whatever else is usable. Then check out the delicious homemade jams, jellies and conserves which are available for purchase.

Interesting collection of many items from recycled items made into art forms . Interesting buildings of local culture. History buffs will also find it interesting.

Brilliant jam factory and art installations in the middle of nowhere on Deer Isle, Maine. Artist Peter Beerits has made it his life's work to fill the forest with his artworks, made from scrap and rescued pieces of furniture/buildings. It's fascinating and unusual. As for the jam, it's lovely!

Just simply Awesome on every level! Love all the groovy art, pathways and sites. An absolute must do with kids of all ages! But everyone will enjoy! The little cafe ( coffee, few cold drinks and a few baked goods) is colorful and sweet. The Jams and Jellies are AMAZING!!! Honestly- if you have driven that far into the puckah... More

Very extensive, well thought-out and creative. My teenagers were still talking about it days after. Give yourself a good hour to hour and a half to see it all. And buy some jam, it's very good.

All of their wonderful jams and preserves are available. You have to make a little time to wander around and see the life-size dioramas created by Peter Berits, an artist-owner.

What a great combination! Peter's ongoing creations never cease to enchant us. Every time we make the drive over the big green bridge we are treated with new sculptures. And the jams and jellies. Yummy. Be aware that they do not take American Express. The blueberry jam is always a big hit in Christmas stockings.

A little pricey but you can sample everythung. The sculptures are interesting and you can smell the jam making when you walk by the kitchen. It was a funky place.

This is a great place for anyone who enjoys eclectic art. Very interesting and unusual pieces including an old town setup and many pieces in the woods. The kids liked that you could go in the buildings and really explore. The best part of the visit for me was the shop where you could sample and buy the great array... More

I bought a case of jams and chutneys from Nervous Nellies. They are delicious! Her husband is an artist, working mostly in salvaged articles. His yard and buildings are his studio, in front of the Jam store, which appears to also house a small sandwich shop. My point is once you get there, the real adventure begins! Kids as well... More
