Nervous Nellie's is a cottage industry (jams and chutneys made with mostly Maine fruit) in a cottage. It's a sculpture studio and acres of whimsical sculptures and installations of American icons like the general store, the juke joint, a western town complete with saloon, sheriff, jail, Chinese laundry, fortune teller, all made in Peter Beerits's quirky style, using re-purposed "junk" from the island dump and countless old barns. Try free jam samples in the shop or have a homemade scone with jam in the tea room. Something for everyone here!

always a stop when I visit Deer Isle. I had forgotten how much I love the chutney until it was served with the pate at the Pilgrim's Inn. The next day I stopped in and bought a jar for myself. All of the jams and jellies are good and make great gifts!

This is a must visit if you are in the Deer Isle/Stonington area. The imagination, creativity and humor behind the artwork is astounding and inspiring. And the jams and jellies are great too!

Good way to spend an afternoon without spending a lot of money. My kids loved wandering through the "town". Some of the staff were standoffish but it was fun.

We were not expecting to spend over an hour at Nervous Nellie's but Peter Beerits' unique metal and wood characters and animals were so surprisingly personable that we wandered around poking into each building and off into the woods, thoroughly enjoying his pieces. I walked around twice, seeing more each go-round. It is truly an amazing art exhibit in an... More

A unique place on Deer Isle. Jellies and jams are their primary products. Very interesting, mechanical sculptures made from common, everyday items. Friendly, interesting owners. Definitely a destination and not someplace that you will likely just pass by. Just OK, maybe not worth any extra effort to visit. Not a real strong recommendation.

Thanks for your review (I think). A little difficult to interpret your comments. . . . It is often difficult to find places on the coast of Maine that are open all year long. We are here year-round and encourage visits anytime we are on the premises, though off-season all we offer is a self-guided walk around the grounds and... More

This place is wonderful. Amazing jams, jellies, chutneys, conserves, and a fun place to explore. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area. If you're not in the area, order the jams online --- trust us, they're fabulous!

This is a must see experience for people of all ages. Peter Beerits' visionary art makes Nervous Nellie's a unique art venue that rivals installations we've seen world wide. A life long project that continues to expand every year, this place is very special.

This is a fun, odd little place. But their jams are AMAZING! We shipped a box home and we have truly enjoyed having a taste a Maine after the trip! Our favorites are the chutneys. Stop and check it out!

So much fun to explore this eclectic venue. Allow time to see everything and check out all the buildings plus grounds. Hard to describe so must go see when in the area. We have family with a home there who told us to go see it. Don't miss the gift shop with made on location jams and jellies. A one... More

This place was a hoot! Lots of unusual art work to see. Whimsical and full of surprises. Something neat around every corner and then there is the gift shop! Lots of jams and jellies and soaps and teas - just a great place to explore.
