About
Enjoy a cruise in Penobscot Bay aboard the lobster boat Lively Lady, a traditional wooden lobster boat. Cruise by surrounding lighthouses, yachts, windjammers and islands while watching for seals and other wildlife. Help the Captain haul a lobster trap and check for critters. Touch tank on board with an array of sea life. A wonderful, safe way to see the harbor, relax and learn about Maine's beloved lobster. We offer private charters, one-hour lobstering and lighthouse cruises, 1.5-hour eco-tours and a special 3-hour Sunday morning lighthouse cruise. BYOB. Owned and operated by Captain Dominic and Liz Gioia, Native Mainers and Camden locals.

Our phenomenal tour guide and Captain made this a great experience. We didn't see many big lobsters as temperatures were moving them out to deep water. The guide was super informative and shared great stories and information about the area, the lobstering lifestyle, costs of doing business, and territorial disputes. There were opportunities to participate in clearing traps and rebaiting the "stinky fish" bags. I highly recommend the folks on the Lively Lady to teach you and show this art. The crew also went out of their way to help educate several small groups of elementary students on the dock before our trip too. They seem like great stewards of their community as well as offering us out of towners a glimpse into the lobsterman's world.

Sailed with these folks on their standard cruises. Son chartered a private cruise on their smallest boat for a special occasion (engagement). Cruise left from a more remote area than their main harbor cruises, maybe a 15-20 minute walk from the main harbor. Captain was on time, understood his role, and allowed a bit of extra time for the cruise - a successfully executed plan. Woman at main harbor was very helpful, too, with directions and more information. Nice people.

We did the morning Lobster Haul Cruise on a beautiful calm day that was not too hot. It was really enjoyable. We learned so much about the business of lobstering from the two guys running the show. They took their time letting everyone hold a lobster and were especially patient with all the young kids on the cruise who enjoyed having their fingers banded together like lobster claws. Would highly recommend this cruise for a real glimpse at a Maine lifestyle.

Awesome boat ride! We took three young kids (2, 3, and 4) with three adults. Both the guide and the captain were incredibly friendly and informative. The tour is pretty action-packed, between checking the lobster trap, watching the seals, and then baiting the trap on the way back. My three-year-old helped tear up the bait and put it in the trap, which was the highlight of his trip. Safety is paramount, and both the guide and captain wore masks the whole time. I realize there are a lot of choices our there for Camden boat rides, but you can't go wrong with this one! There were maybe 15 people total on the boat, and there was plenty of room for all of us. They had blankets if it got cold, and had answers to all our questions. Highly recommended!

This was a great charter. I chartered through Camden Harbor Cruises on 2 different days. Both days were great and got to see a lot of lighthouses, seals, osprey, bald eagle and porpoises. I would highly recommend taking one of these tours or chartering their boat. They are very accommodating on seeing what you want to see.

I thought the lobstering cruise aboard the Lively Lady was great. During the two-hour cruise, the crew educated us on the entire process lobstermen undertake each day to catch their haul of lobsters from their traps. During the cruise the crew raised two or three lobster traps, inspected the catch in each, threw back the ineligible lobsters and crabs, kept the marketable lobsters, and re-baited and lowered the lobster traps. They discussed each step of the process. It was a great way to spend the morning and was a real value. An added benefit was that we also were able to get some great views of classic scenes such as the Curtis Island Lighthouse, as well as viewing an eagle’s nest and an osprey nest.

Narrative could be heard fairly well (we were in last seat); he was sensitive to our ability to hear descriptors of seal sightings, light houses. We are in our 70’s and found the hard park style benches uncomfortable for a three hour tour. Interesting info re: the keeper’s houses and what has happened to them after ending that era. Appreciated that he spoke off mic when he pointed out notable owned yachts in the beautiful harbor.

I cannot say enough positive things about this cruise. We took an hour and a half private cruise on Penobscot Bay, with Dominic as our captain, and it was outstanding. Yes, the weather was gorgeous and perfect, but the actual cruise and info told was so interesting and fun, but there was also some silence to just enjoy the surroundings. We also saw seals! His assistant Bart (I believe) was so sweet and let my teen son hold a lobster. The communication leading up to the cruise was great as well. This was the perfect ending to our Maine trip, and I would take this exact cruise again in a second. My husband and son feel the same way. The scenery was like a painting. Stunning! So our photos turned out amazing! Book this cruise!

What a great windy day to go out on the boat. These men did everything possible to make this a great trip. They pointed out seals, showed us how to pull a lobster trap which came up with all crabs and how to bait and put the trap back out. The fact that it was hands on for everyone made it that more enjoyable. The wonderful stories and watching them interact was great. My husband and I truly enjoyed our time other than it went by too fast.

The trip was fabulous!! Knowledgeable and friendly Captain and First Mate, with great facts, fun approach to teaching us about commercial lobstering, other wildlife and the Maine lobstering industry. Small size made it very personal and focused on our areas of interest. Highly recommend!

Does does this cruise take you to see lighthouses? What's the cruise like? How cold will it be at the first of June? Do you have to book in advance and cost.

Best to check their web site. I think the lighthouse cruise is only Sunday. We saw many lighthouses and it was a nice trip. We went in late Sept. and dressed in layers. Probably the same in early June.
