Grave site on main street right beside our Inn is the resting place of Jacob Buck after which the town is named who after death it is said is still haunted by his mistress whose foot adorns his gravestone.

During our vacation to Maine and Canada last summer (of 2017), we stayed in Bucksport for a couple of days. The Buck cemetery with the unique " Witch's Foot " on the large grave marker is always a tourist highlight. Research the folklore before you...More

The legend is interesting and it's fun to see the gravestone. Whether it's true or not, it's still a great folk tale and the gravestone is pretty creepy.

A small cemetery with an interesting legend. The witches boot is a story worth reading. True? Maybe so...maybe not.

Seriously? This really is so boring. And, if the witch foot keeps coming back, I offer THIS suggestion as a major tourist draw. Film someone sanding off the current "foot" on the stone and then keep a web-cam pointed at the stone and watch the...More

Ah the legend of Col. Jon Buck! If you've got kids, this is an especially nice stop. Clearly see the witch's leg (or Jon's Boot) on the side of the monument. There is a plaque beside explaining the legends details. You can park in the...More
