be ready to take home a book - the place is packed with wonderful books of all sorts - and cards as well.

Gulf of Maine books has been here as long as I can remember and that dates back decades; and its owners are fascinating. Come in for a visit.

The quality of service and selection of reading materials make this a favorite place for those who love books. There are none of the associated "frills", however, found in some newer bookstores such as cafe, or reading nooks. It is a Mainstreet store with an extremely knowledgeable, helpful staff.

Best book store in Maine. Excellent selection and great owners. It's so nice to still have a small locally owned bookstore

And long may the Gulf of Maine Bookstore live! Not only are they an outstanding INDEPENDENT book seller - thank GOD - but owners Gary Lawless (with a most appropriate last name :) and Beth Leonard are two of the nicest people I know. Not only that but Gary is an accomplished author/poet/writer and no trip to Brunswick, much less... More

Customers of this wonderful in-town bookstore worried when Borders moved to a shopping plaza outside of town. No worries. Borders has come and gone. The Gulf of Maine still brings a wonderful selection of Maine authors and poets to a loyal fan base and the tourists " from away." If we always buy from Amazon there will only be empty... More

The best bookstore in Maine and possibly New England. They have outlived the big chain bookstores and have a very loyal cliental. The owners, Beth and Gary go out of their way to satisfy their customers and can order most anything in a timely manner. Their originality, awareness and a wide variety of books has kept them in business for... More

Small but to the point, you gotta love independent book stores. Gulf of Maine has been around for decades, and there is a reason for that. Leaning a little (or a lot) to the left) indie book stores stand for independence and a point of view. Find the books that you didn't know were written. Poke around and just enjoy... More
