Myself, my husband and our 2 and half year old daughter took a lobster fishing trip with Captain Clive Farrin on July 4th. The trip lasts for about an hour. Every minute we learnt something new about lobsters, the lobster fishing industry or the Boothbay region. Captian gave us instructions on the phone on where to arrive previous day including the directions on where to park. The directions was easy to find and we used Google maps to navigate to the POIs the captain told. From the time we got into the boat the captain helpers Isaac and Annie made us feel welcomed. They both shared so much information about the lobsters and how they are trapped. Then they pulled the buoys and checked each of the traps and kept the lobsters which passed the size and the breeding requirements. Also, in the traps we saw a fish, crab and baby lobster being caught. All of them were sent back to sea. The buoys we pulled was around Burnt Island lighthouse so we got a good view of light house as well. We learned about soft shell vs hard shell. Now we can appreciate the price we pay for the lobster as it is a hard work and a lot of knowledge about the sea is required to see where lobsters are hiding. Overall definitely worth a trip and we came back educated about lobsters. Then we bought a cooked lobster meat from Atlantic Edge Lobster shop and later cooked yummy lobster rolls at the rental place.

Incredible trip and the highlight of our week!! We had 8 of us split on 2 different tours ages 10-75. (He can only take 6 passengers at a time) We all loved it! Clive and his crew did a great job explaining what it is like to work on a lobster boat. They are all very personable and enjoy what they do. It is an authentic trip on a lobster boat that is not run by a touristy company. (you may get a little wet) It is a once in a lifetime experience!! Highly recommend!!

We had a group of 5 with Clive this morning (3 generations, ages 15-75). We’ve been reading reviews and have been interested in this trip since we began making these vacation plans nearly a year ago. The trip certainly did not disappoint and an hour and a half seemed to fly by in what felt like 10 minutes. Clive is obviously incredibly knowledgeable and he and Caige work together like a well oiled machine (not only in pulling traps but in the constant education taking place throughout this trip). Conservation and the health and well being of the lobster industry is clearly a priority for Clive and these sentiments come through loud and clear when he speaks. There is no doubt this morning’s trip with Clive and Caige will end up being some of our most genuine, lasting memories from our time in the Boothbay area.

The tour website wasn't working, but I learned that Clive runs his tour Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays. It's best to call ahead 207-380-7677. It's $120 minimum for up to three people, $40 each for more than three, maximum of six. Best to call ahead as Clive gets booked in advance.

I wanted my 10 year old grandson to learn about lobsters and the business of lobstering. Great success. Captain Farrin is the real deal. This is not a "tour," but a inside look at Maine's premier industry. Captain
Clive is Old School when it comes to making arrangements. No email, no texting, no credit card numbers, cash only. He has an answering machine and usually returns phone calls after 4 or 5pm. I saw some very old reviews that referred to "not showing up," but we had no such worries. He was totally responsible and dependable in my view. Our morning on the water, the Captain and two crew pulled three buoys (15 traps) and caught maybe 30 keepable lobsters. Fascinating learning the ins and outs of the rules and regulations. The morning of our trip the Portland newspaper reported that lobster prices had collapsed since 2021 and costs had doubled. But all three lobster-persons (one female) were in a good mood, worked really hard, I might add, and didn't lose any fingers. The Captain gives a 15 minute illustrated talk on his industry while returning to the dock, which is very interesting and helpful to understanding the "prey" and how they think and behave. FYI, there's a clean public bathroom at the public dock where you meet the boat. My grandson felt this trip was the best thing we did in a 6 day trip to Boston and Booth Bay. The wonderful New England Aquarium in Boston was his SECOND favorite, which tells you this is a special experience and well worth the cost.

Captain Farrin and his team are professional, informative, thorough and entertaining. Went out with captain Farrin, Isaac and Annie in Boothbay Harbor to pull 3-4 sets of traps. Unfortunately is wasn't too productive for them (10-15 keepers) but none the less they made the best of the tour. Captain takes the time to explain the industry, regulations, some history and challenges. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area. They will make it as interactive as you want. Isaac and Annie were very accomodating to questions while performing their primary responsibilities. The time on the water with them allows one to appreciate the industry and its challenges. Very easy to do from initial phone call to exiting the boat! Give him a call!

Captain Clive, his grandson Isaac and Caige are excellent tour guides and true teachers of this trade. It was a great experience for the family, we learned so much about Lobsters and built a new admiration for the region and ist Lobster industry and fisherman. 100 % recommended. We puled 20 traps and many Lobsters.

Very cool experience to see how the lobster traps are pulled, how they determine what lobsters to keep and which to throw back, baiting the traps then setting them back. Captain Clive was very informative on educating us about lobsters and different rules and regulations that have to be followed in order to be in this type of fishery! We had 2 adults and 2 kids (12 & 9) in our group. I recommend keeping your group on the small size like ours to ensure that everybody is comfortable. Definitely wouldn’t recommend bringing young children aboard since there are many potential hazards!

Clive has been fishing lobster since the 60s. He has been doing charters now for about 11 years. He figured, “I go everyday, might as well share the experience.” He takes you out with his crew (his colleague and grandson) and pulls several traps and teaches you all about the lobster, the industry, and the history. We caught some nice ones! My 7 and 9 year old girls got to band them and hold them, which they loved. We had such a great time with this “ride along” and it was worth every penny for the experience. You meet at Atlantic Edge next to the Boothbay harbor fisherman’s memorial (also a great place to buy the lobster you just caught for 5-7 dollars a pound!) and ride on his actual lobster boat. It’s intimate and we were the only family with his crew. Loved it.

Captain Clive and Annie made this a memorable experience. We got a hands on look at lobstering from a captain that has done this all of his life. They pulled traps, baited traps, banded lobsters and educated us while doing so. Understanding the preservation of lobsters and other marine life is key!
