About
Our 2024 season has come to a close! Over the winter, we are still happy to take your calls/texts or even provide gift certificates for the upcoming holiday season. We expect to be back in the water for June 2025. Our three-hull expedition boats are super-stable, have a privacy head (bathroom), living room comfort, and walk on accessibility with wheelchair capabilities. Our service area is East Boothbay to Seguin Lighthouse to include the Sheepscot, Sasanoa and Kennebec Rivers, the Maine Coastline, and all interconnecting waterways. We offer a variety of suggested cruises on our website- check us out at Riverruntours.com

We had a fun private river tour on our last day in Maine. Capt. Gary was so knowledgable about the history, nature and the culture of Maine. His boat is clean and comfortable. He is also super safety conscious so we felt at ease the whole time. I highly recommend booking this private tour if you are looking for a way to see Maine from another, beautiful vantage point. Props for keeping us mostly dry through the choppy wakes of the big boats. Thanks Gary!!

You are most welcome. Those big boats are pretty to look at but sure can cause some big wakes.

Privileged to be a passenger on the inaugural Sinatra Sunset Cruise to Merrymeeting Bay. Capt Gary thought of everything: warm blankets, beverages, interesting commentary about the 5 rivers that empty into the Bay....but the best was the music. With an instrumental playlist for accompaniment, he sang Sinatra at its best. He has a wonderful voice, indulged us in the old favorites, wore a fedora hat like Sinatra, and created a fine backdrop as the sunset took place. A memorable event, and I can’t wait to go again next season.

Captain Gary gave a very knowledgeable and historic tour of the Kennebec River and the city of Bath, Maine.
First Mate Lori and 2nd Mate River were fun and made the evening cruise complete! The boat has 3 pontoons which gives an extraordinarily smooth ride. We saw many seals, bald eagles and sea birds as well as a spectacular sunset! Captain Gary shared his historic and fascinating knowledge of the rivers Lighthouses, and we thoroughly enjoyed this 1.5 hour sunset tour! We would totally do another wonderful tour with him!

The best way to experience Maine's coastline is from a boat, and Captain Gary's River Run Tours delivers a shipshape vessel that's comfortable, clean and safe. We relished our relaxed three-hour tour, which Captain Gary tailored to highlight sightings of seals, cormorants, eiders and other wildlife while navigating some of the most scenic waterways from Bath to Boothbay. We enjoyed a picnic style lunch that we brought on board, and we stretched our legs on Burnt Island where we happily snapped photos of the Lighthouse and ocean views. Captain Gary's unobtrusive yet informative narration demonstrated his knowledge of the area from historical references to the hot dining spots in Bath, Robinhood Cove, Boothbay and beyond. A River Run Tour launches a uniquely personalized experience for a great value that will leave you with a deep appreciation of the natural setting and beauty of Maine.

Captain Gary promptly contacted us by phone after we reserved a trip and time on the River Run Tours website. He explained in detail where we’d go and what we’d likely see and asked the appropriate questions to be sure we had chosen the right trip. When we explained that a member of our party had special needs due to limited mobility, Captain Gary suggested an alternate boarding location to better accommodate our limitations. On the day of our tour, we easily boarded and were given a thorough safety briefing before we left the dock. Once underway, Captain Gary kept the members of our party, from age 16 to 81, thoroughly engaged sharing his knowledge about local history as he pointed out sites and wildlife. The boat was spotless, comfortable, and safe. When we saw a large, overcrowded tour boat motor by, we were happy we had chosen River Run Tours. You will be too.

Captain Gary was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. He was extremely responsive in the weeks leading up to the event and took time to answer my many questions. Our group had 9 people and Captain Gary went out of his way to find a second boat/captain so we would be able to accommodate our entire group. If you're in a similar situation, ask for Chris as your second captain! Captain Gary went above and beyond in both the planning process and the day-of event. Our family's day on the Sheepscot with Captains Gary and Chris was a beautiful celebration that we will hold in our hearts forever. As a special treat, be sure to ask Captain Gary for his Frank Sinatra impersonation - you won't be sorry!

We had the best trip with Captains Gary and Chris! We chartered 2 of their boats, 6 people on each boat, and they customized a tour just for us, hitting all the spots we wanted to see. They each had fun facts to share with us about the history along the way.We started out at the waterfront park in Bath and headed up to Merrymeeting Bay where 6 rivers converge. Then we had headed back down the Kennebec River, where we got as close to Bath Iron Works as you can get. From there we cruised over to the Sasanoa River and through the exciting Hell's Gates. We saw seals, eagles, and osprey, getting up close and personal with a mother osprey and her babies. We went to Southport Island for a great lunch at a working wharf with lobster boats coming in and unloading their day's catch. After lunch we headed into Boothbay harbor and mingled with all the beautiful sailboats and yachts before heading back home to Bath. It was a gorgeous day and the most relaxing boat trip I've ever been on. I will definitely use River Run in the future, especially for bringing out-of-town guests for an experience they won't forget!😊🌞🚤🦅

We had an absolutely fantastic time with Captain Gary and First Mate Tom on the River Run Tours. It started two months ago when I made my reservation. I called and talked to Captain Gary and he helped me figure out which tour would be the best for us, and he wasn't wrong! We took the Boothbay the Back Way and it was amazing! We couldn't have ordered more perfect weather and Gary was a great narrator of history of the area, and the boat ride itself couldn't have been smoother, even when we ran into a few swells. There is no better way to spend a day than on a tour with Captain Gary and his crew! When we make it back to Maine someday we will definitely book another tour with River Run Tours and Captain Gary!

We did the sunset lighthouse cruise and it was spectacular. Captain Gary was extremely informative (but also offered to say nothing if we just wanted to take in the view) and got us back slightly early, on time, as we had to deal with Bath restaurants closing at 830 on Sundays. The view along the river is amazing, including the nesting birds and seals, and the whole experience is unique. The following morning we received an email with a video about, and very nice pictures from, our trip. So highly recommended, and affordable too.

We had a wonderful time on the water with Captain Gary and River, his 8 month old yellow Labrador retriever. Prior to our cruise, Captain Gary kept a close eye on fluctuating weather conditions to assure that our trip would be a safe, pleasurable experience. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and provided the perfect amount of commentary about the sites during our tour. I would not hesitate to book another trip with him and will be sure to do so the next time I am in the area with my family.

Are views of seals only available on early morning tours? Can they be seen on a 1 hour tour?
Written July 22, 2017
Seals can be seen at any time and yes on a 1 hour tour. Although not a 100% guarantee, but odds are you will see seals. Thanks, Captain Gary
