I loved the ferry ride over from Bass Harbor (inhale the beach roses -- aka the rosa rugosa by the ferry terminal) to Swan's Island. It took about 40 minutes. You really get a feel for the classic rugged beauty of this part of Maine and these beautiful islands off the coast of Mt Desert Island....the tall spruce trees, the... More

My brother-in-law lives here. I love the place. Very inviting and friendly place. A Lobster fleet sails out of the harbor there. The summer is when the shops and eateries are open. Ferry commutes from Bass Harbor several times a day. Visit during the folk music festival in the summer!

One of the lighthouses you can get close to. There is an active Coast Guard family stationed here so be courteous. There is also a path that leads to some great photo opportunities.

My wife and I, had an over nite on Swans Island last July. We took our BMW touring motorcycle over on the ferry from Bass Harbor on weekday morning, checked in with Colleen, the owner of the Inn, who was working the ferry terminal at Bass Harbor, on the mainland, We went over to our room at her Harbor Watch,... If you like ocean views, swimming in an abandoned quarry, exploring a superbly restored lighthouse, peering into wildly colored tidal pools on rocky shores, and bicycling on roller-coaster hills, put your bike on the ferry at Bass Harbor (on Mount Desert Island) and spend an idyllic day on Swans. Yes, you could see all these attractions on Swans using a... More

We are staying in Bass Harbor - the ferry to Swans Island is just down the road. It was an easy on and easy off the ferry trip for us but you do need a car. There is nothing to see or do from where the ferry comes in. The lighthouse was lovely, there was no one around at all... More

It is hidden gem right next to very famous Acadia. It is not place for everyone, it’s more like acquired taste. If you enjoy nature and bit of loneliness to unwind and relax then this is place for you. There are few things to keep in mind about this place. 1) Bring your own supplies, there is only one shop... Swans Island is a wonderful getaway. The lighthouse walk is beautiful, and the lighthouse has some great views. The character of the island is simply wonderful. I have been going for years, and love it!

A car, bicycle, and people ferry leaves from Bass Harbor regularly for Swan's Island. It is a great place to get away from crowds and visit a real Maine Isand as it was a century ago and still is today in many ways. Swan's is a large island and transportaion is needed to visit picturesque small villages, an old lighthouse,... More

Swans Island is a beautiful Maine Island. There are rock beaches and a nice sandy beach. Burnt Coat Harbor has incredible views from the light house.
