We saw "Don't Dress for Dinner." This is a classic comedy of mistaken identity and wacky characters, made even more special by the talented actors. We particularly enjoyed the performance of Jen Shepard of Improv Acadia fame, as Suzette. This theater is a gem!

The Penobscot Theatre is a treasure for Bangor. While the Theatre remains physically closed during Covid, it is alive in spirit. The theatre is located in the old opera house and offers a variety of plays during the year. It is in the downtown part of Bangor. During the temporary closure you can find the theatre online. It is worth a visit if you support culture.

Thanks! Yes! We are taking this time to renovate the opera house bathrooms, upgrade our sound system and catalogue our 47 years of costumes and props. Additionally, we are offering an ecclectic season of original work we are creating for this new hybrid medium, called Digitus Theatrum - certainly a season unlike any other we have ever produced before or even imagined! So far we have subscribers from all over the world supporting this endeavor. We look forward to sharing the work of Penobscot Theatre Company and of introducing more folks to historic, beautiful, fascinating Bangor, Maine!

I subscribed to PTC Digitus Theatrum for some entertainment during the Covid-19 crisis. Last week I listened to "Ghost Postcards from Maine" which is a collection of six ghost stories set in Maine. These were very well done and are really entertaining. I listened to them again, one at a time, a few days later. Great actors, sound and visual impressions! Perfect for an eerie fall evening! I also watched "The Glitch Witch." It's designed more for the young, but I'm an old timer and enjoyed watching something that was light, fun and entertaining. There is a wide selection of different types of shows available at various times throughout the winter. Check this out. It's well done and transmits beautifully on the computer, cell phone or smart TV.

We went to a performance of A Christmas Carol. Total WOKE show with woman playing mens roles, Men playing womens roles, and child actors doing the same. At intermission, families were walking out as they did not want their children to see this. I would avoid this type of gender swapping.

What a wonderful theatre! I had a couple of free days during a business trip and the theatre was recommended by a friend. The performance was very well done, the venue was warm and comfortable, and acoustics were great. I recommend it and will make a point of attending another performance on the next visit!

I have been to Bangor many times before, but had never been here until this year. Through a quick google search on upcoming events around town, I learned about this place. They were showing 9 to 5 the Musical. I love musical theatre and was super excited to see this performance. The theatre was very nice and comfortable. The sound was good and the actors were great. There was a small bar set up with things for sale if desired. I didn't buy anything. They had programs for guests and the bathroom downstairs was nice. There was a couch in it and they had another bathroom upstairs. Anyone could use either washroom which was nice to help keep the lines shorter. The price was reasonable and I look forward to attending another performance on the next visit!

The Penobscot Theatre has been THE cultural go-to place in Bangor for decades. Each season a wide variety of shows are offered at a reasonable price that will appeal to most audiences. Although there have been several artistic directors over the years, the quality of the productions have remained high.

Wonderful venue and theater company. Excellent productions and talent. We have become subscribers for season tickets, to make sure we don't miss anything and help support this wonderful addition to the Bangor "arts scene". Well worth visiting if you are a resident of the area or just passing thru.

The productions are terrific but truly wish the pool of actors would rotate or expand. Seems Bangor would be big enough to keep a variety of talent to suite special rolls.

Having led Penobscot Theatre for six years puts me in an interesting position to review the institution. So, let me do it from another side. The shows are top notch, but that's only because of the fabulous artistic choices that the entire team (artistic, technical, administrative) makes. You will be hard-pressed to find a finer group of people creating theatre for a fine group of residents and visitors of the Queen City. And it's really the audiences who make each and every performance a true work of art. Talk about dedication. If only all theatre companies enjoyed such a diverse, intelligent and beautiful audience. What Penobscot Theatre is able to do in the small city of Bangor, larger theatres in major metropolitan areas should envy. I'm continually thankful for the time I was able to run the institution, and if anybody ever feels like there is a great project for me to act in or direct in the future at the stunningly beautiful and historic Bangor Opera House, I'd try to make it back in a heartbeat.
