Simple church
Aug 2019
Although a simple looking church it is steeped in history. It has moved from the river flats and then from unstable land to where it is today. Lovely stained glassed windows.

Beautiful church with history. The curved pews are exceptional and unique. Pull the rope as you leave and ring the bells!

Open and loving place
Dec 2016 • Couples
A wonderful, open, loving congregation. Beautiful church and surrounding area to see. There's a great session of Christmas carols at Christmas time and it's beautifully lit.

Beautiful historic church
Mar 2016 • Friends
St. Francisville UMC began in 1844. The original church burned but the bell and some architectural elements were salvaged and were used in the current building. Bell sounds amazing. Check out the rare curved pews!

The lady Pastor was dynamite!
Dec 2015 • Couples
We loved the 1826 church. Their hospitality was in keeping with the Christmas spirit (Dec. 24th) as they invited us from the American Queen riverboat to attend with them. The service was excellent, meaningful, fun and rewarding. The Pastor was a woman and wonderful. This congregation was truly blessed to have her and I think they know this and value her.
Stop in here some Sunday as you pass by for a rewarding experience.

The bell tower of this historic church reveals an interesting past
May 2015 • Solo
The historic St. Francisville United Methodist Church isn’t as impressive as the big, beautiful Grace Episcopal Church a few blocks away, but the simple clapboard building has a dignified character that I find very appealing. The church’s façade has several features that reveal its interesting past. A stained glass window above the entrance (see photo) bears the inscription “Methodist Episcopal Church South.” This was the original name of the Methodist Church organized in 1844 in Bayou Sara, the below-the-bluff river port (now long gone) that preceded St. Francisville. The bell that now hangs in the tower once hung in that 1844 church. The handsome Gothic Revival stained glass windows that frame the bell tower and entrance have been there since this church was completed (on a different site) in 1899. The interior of the building has been partially restored.

If the St. Francisville United Methodist Church has an official Louisiana State Historical Marker out front, I didn’t see it. It certainly deserves one.
