- Jess L1 contributionPrettiest place I’ve ever seenStayed for a 1 night stopover on our journey south and was definitely worth it. The home and the history of the property was absolutely fascinating. We took the evening and the day tours, both tour guides were so knowledgeable. We also had a fantastic meal in the on-site restaurant. The Myrtles is easily the prettiest place I’ve ever seen.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 11, 2023
- philippa742023Baton Rouge, Louisiana1 contributionWonderful timeMy best friend and I went on the Mystery Tour together. We had a fabulous time!! The tour guide, Sharon, was very knowledgeable. The Myrtles Plantation is just beautiful. We actually witnessed some paranormal activity too. I also caught two ghost on camera too!! Very fun and spooky activity for Halloween!! Would highly recommend!!Visited October 2023Written October 15, 2023
- DNaffaLacombe, Louisiana1 contributionIncredible experience! My family decided to take a history tour on Halloween to start the spooky day off! I homeschol my kids, 6th and 4th grade, and this was an incredible history lesson! My 4th grader is now excited to start her historical essay on the Myrtle's! Shannon was incredible and took the time to give us the most memorable tour possible. She went above and beyond! My girls have raved about this experience to everyone! If you are a homeschool parent, I HIGHLY recommend the history tour for your family!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 2, 2023
- mskriss2023Kelso, Washington1 contributionAmazing historyThis place was steeped in history and we only heard a small part of it. It was amazing to hear and see all the artifacts from that time period. The additional smell of roses when your outside and not see a rose bush in site was nice feature.Visited November 2023Written November 5, 2023
- Katie9mbhDenham Springs, Louisiana1 contributionA delightful visitI brought my daughter to stay the night at The Myrtles to celebrate her 13th birthday. She talked me into renting what's known as "the doll room." Very creepy room with four dolls on the mantel, one that is referred to as "Sinister Sally," which I personally found the most disturbing. Aside from that, the room was lovely. We attended both the day and night tours, which were very interesting. Though we didn't experience anything supernatural, we had a really great time and slept very well. It's definitely a great experience!Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 22, 2023
- delaine7021 contributionHistory and LegendThe grounds are lovely and oldest part of the house appears authentic. Antiques and relics are beautifully presented. The legend of Chloe and her owners sounds plausible; nonetheless tragic for all involved. Our guide was excellent. I recommend if one wants to leave a gratuity, hand it directly to your guide.Visited December 2023Written December 5, 2023
- kylebrown2023Denham Springs, Louisiana1 contribution7th Grade Field TripThey were very accommodating for our large group of 150+ students. We went in shift to tour the house, had full access to the property and even had a nice place to sit and eat lunch on the property. I would highly suggest taking your group to the Myrtles if ever given the chanceVisited December 2023Written December 7, 2023
- Sandy LBaton Rouge, Louisiana37 contributionsBeautiful fascinating plantation house. A must see!Wonderful experience. Our tour guide Rainy Day, yes that's her name, was absolutely the best. We brought our 10 year old granddaughter who was fascinated by the "ghost stories" about the house. The tour did not disappoint. Rainey discussed most of the history of the house and all who lived there. She kept it informative and interesting. Can't wait to spend the night in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The grounds are beautiful.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 1, 2024

I really like this place and want to write a totally positive review but ....
First the good. The plantation house is nuce. Not overpowering, good Architecture. The Myrtles is beautifully sited amongst ancient Live Oaks. This “haunted” antebellum home is a treat to visit. The regular tour and the nighttime mystery tour are both enjoyable.
The dining experience was wonderful. Good food and better service. The staff took extra time to decant and hold our wines in advance of dinner for a reasonable corkage fee and otherwise did everything possible to make our meal a great one.
The bad. Our room was totally soulless. It was small, overpriced, only partially furnished, with cheap undersized pieces in a building that clashes with the scale of the plantation home and beautiful grounds consisting of small cottages surrounding a pretty little pond.
If you can get a room in the main house or one of the cottages I highly recommend staying at the Myrtles. If not take the tour, book dinner or lunch and go home.
A final word. The staff is all young, but knowledgeable and skilled. I have never had better more accommodating service anywhere.

My daughter and I did the Friday night(8pm) tour. Well worth the money (only $15 pp) Our tour guide (Riley, I believe) was lots of fun, she made it more interesting. I had read up on it, but she threw in lots of interesting little details we didn't know. The home and grounds are beautiful! We will definitely go again on our next trip through, maybe next time even stay in one of the rooms or cabins there!

My husband and I are huge history buffs. During a quick trip to Louisiana we wanted to fit in as much as possible, so we were very excited to see that Myrtles offered a night tour, as the rest of the local plantations close are 4-5pm. It’s touted as “haunted” and while we figured we’d hear a little about ghosts, we assumed the tour would still delve into the history of the Myrtles Plantation. Nope! At the beginning of the tour our guide gave a very, very brief rundown of the history and then the rest of the hour was her telling us about creepy things that happened to her in the house. What kind of tour is that? Even ghost/“vampire” tours in New Orleans take the time to at least explain the history, not just share he said/she said stories about weird pictures they’ve caught. And only through four rooms? We were extremely disappointed and upset that we had driven that far from New Orleans for a waste of a tour. We learned more from doing some online research. Save your cash and stick to Laura Plantation if you’re looking for history.

We had a wonderful birthday outing for my thirteen year old and her friends. The tour guide tells the stories so well. She had no problem keeping the interest of four kids ranging in age from 10 to 15 years old and us parents in our 30s. It was mine and my husband’s second day tour and we had a different tour guide the first time who was also excellent. I highly recommend for anyone interested in history and the possibility of catching a glimpse of something.

We have enjoyed touring plantation homes. The history, the structures, walking where people who built them and lived there walked. But, at this one, the only original structure is the home itself. The general store burned down and this is a reproduction. The home is surrounded by cabins, townhouses, and a restaurant that are all newer and just for money. The noise and people sitting and milling around ruined the atmosphere. We came here more specifically for the "Haunted Tour". When we finally got to that , it was interesting enough. Tom was our guide and described the home and very well. He also had many stories of unusual activity; both anecdotal and personal experience. As this plantation was the furthest from our resort, I wish we hadn't made the extra effort.

House was awesome, grounds were very well kept. Unfortunately, the tour was terrible. The young lady tour guide was dressed handsomely, however she made way too many gestures as if some of the "ghosts" were talking to her and interacting with her during the tour. After the first couple of times it was ok, but it got a little annoying. 2 thumbs down!

Did not like this place until the actual tour. Finding a place to park is horrendous and with very little lighting anywhere. Available parking was somewhere 50yards from the actual full parking lot, in the woods.
After the parking ordeal, there are no directions or any indication of where to go to find where the tour is to take place. Had to ask around to several of the staff of the restaurant there for guidance. Then while waiting for the tour guide, the villa area was pack with the younger crowd being loud and obnoxious drinking from the 3 personal ice chest, I assume was allowed.
The tour itself was OK. The place is very dimly lit and the visual aspect was more on focusing on not bumping into the 30 other people in the tour or furniture. I understand setting the ambiance or theme, but it is almost too dark to make out anything.
I would suggest a tour earlier in the day to be able to see and avoid the drinking crowd or hard pass this place all together.

A group of friends and I took the 8pm Evening Mystery Tour. The lights were all turned low, creating a spooky effect. Our tour guide was fantastic (I think her name is Hailey). She was knowledgeable and projected her voice so everyone could hear. She spoke about the history of the house and its owners, and shared several stories of ghostly encounters from guests.

Outstanding! This trip was one I will never forget. The giftshop employees, Myrtles Planation guides (I did the day and night tour), and Restaurant hosts, food, and servers were awesome! I would highly recommend visiting, eating, doing a day and night tour for both experiences, and staying at Myrtles. I felt at home by their top notch hospitality. I will be visiting again. Their knowledge on the tour provided not only the eerie haunted feeling, but also a deep look into the lives of all the people who lived and died at Myrtles. The beauty and history of Myrtles is one you have to go see and hear about! Loved!!!!!

What a great surprise on the renovations of Restaurant 1796 in the Myrtles Plantation. The beautiful setting of the restaurant is situated in what was probably a carriage house at one time.
Covid protocols were all in place, and we were seated in a cozy corner in some unusual chairs that practically covered you up. Our waiter was very attentive, and the presentation and delectability of our dinner was fantastic. We will definitely be going back.

Is there a major difference between the day tours and the evening tours? I'm trying to plan a trip and was wondering what was the best time to stop by for a tour.
Written September 28, 2017
Good Morning, There is a slight difference in the tours. Our daily tours focus a little more on the history of the house, while our night tours tell more of the ghost stories. With both tours you do get the background history of the previous owners. It all depends on what you are looking for. Both are great!
Written October 27, 2017
Yes, there doesn't seem to be any reason why not. There are tables in the courtyard. I noticed several guests who picked up dinner in town then ate there because there is no other food source there since the restaurant burned down.

I'm sorry that people on this site did not like the food. I have eaten there several times and never got a bad meal. But I am a Louisianian and for some non Louisianians they fail to appreciate the culinary culture...or I guess the restaurant had a bad night??? I dunno. But everyone is correct. It is expensive. But heck people do you think a 1800 plantation takes care of itself???You are paying partly for the building. Don't like that? Go to Mcdonalds
