Worth the trip
Jul 2019 • Family
This is a wonderful site exploring a little-known immigrant group to America. Bill the director gave a wonderful tour. How he maintains so much knowledge is beyond me. Could have stayed much longer. Also great to get out of the city and see rural LA. Highly recommend it.

Check into my roots
Mar 2018 • Family
While going to the festival, I encountered people that are part of the Facility that will try to find what ever records of the your ancestors of Canary Island.
This is a wonderful thing since I tried to get this myself for the Island and found that they are reluctant to share are of the official departments

Christmas Visit
Dec 2017 • Family
My family and I went to see their Chritmas village display and bonfire. We got to tour the houses and hear how Christmas was celebrated back then. Tour was nice, everyone was very knowledgable and friendly.

A Great Day!
Feb 2018
My husband and I made a day trip to St. Bernard Parish about a week ago. One of our stops was the Los Islenos Museum.
We had the place to ourselves and got a personal tour from the historian of St. Bernard, Mr. Hyland. It was excellent!
Plus, found out we are related by marriage!

A Great Little Gem
Jun 2017 • Solo
Did you know that the Spanish from the Canary Islands settled here in the 1700s ( the Islenos) and helped with the French Creoles to fight the British in the American Revolution?

It is an interesting history and this museum and staff do a great job in telling the story of the Islenos.

History, Culture, & Nature
Sep 2016 • Friends
Los Islenos Museum is a complex of several buildings saved once, twice, thrice! Very interesting guided tour by the historian of St. Bernard Parish. Bill took us through several buildings telling the history of the Canary Islanders and others who settled in St. Bernard in the most interesting way. He answered all our questions with an incredible storehouse of knowledge about everything from the culture to architecture to ecological conditions. I can't wait to visit again when the weather cools down a bit!
We were fortunate enough to be there when there was also a collectors' car group there, so we were able to see some beautiful automobiles. We also got to sample delicious dishes that the Islenos might have prepared, but that was truly lagniappe. They don't do that all the time.
If you can, visit this museum complex. Besides all the history, the grounds are beautiful and the land beyond explanation. Take your children -- just in case we lose that precious land in the future.

More to Louisiana Than Downtown New Orleans
Jul 2016 • Family
I was looking forward to this place in our visit to Louisiana,True we enjoyed the downtown New Orleans, and the plantations. However, there is something special about this place. It is generations of descendants preserving the traditions of their ancestors from the Canary Islands of Spain and making a big influence to the French and what is today a melting pot of great people. Our visit was on a very stormy and hot day in July. We were the only ones waiting for the museum to open.Yes, Mr. "Wimpy was in his car and we waited for the weather to clear. Arms with umbrellas, we walked to soggy grounds. The place was worth the trouble. We enjoyed everything. We even had the opportunity to meet and talk with the curator. This small village is true to the daily life of the Islenos. The volunteers are very dedicated. The entrance fee is very affordable. Locals can rent the villages for weddings.we enjoyed visiting every house in the village. If you are not from Louisiana and like to visit this place.visit the web site or see videos in YouTube to get a better idea of what happen there.

Excellent Museum
Mar 2015 • Family
Los Islenos Museum is Excellent and the Volunteers are very friendly. The Grounds are very well kept. The Museum is staffed by the Los Islenos Heritage and Cultural Society. In March they have their annual Fiesta, Spanish Foods and Music. A perfect time for a visit. Islenos are the original settlers of St. Bernard Parish from the Canary Islands.
