About
A Louisiana swamp tour like no other! We are a family owned and operated business who share the same passion for the swamp. By using smaller boats, we provide an adventure deep into the magical swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin, where other swamp tours with their big boats can’t go.

We went on the tour in late April and had the tour to ourselves (myself and my 3 boys). The experience was perfect in every way. We met at Dales Trading Post at the appointed time and followed him to the launch site (plenty of parking). We got on the boat (see picture) and he told his about where we were and the outline of the tour. The boat went fast enough at times to keep you cool and we had no problem with bugs. He is a font of knowledge about but swamp and the many environmental issues facing keeping it healthy. He pointed out wildlife along the way and stopped at several points to see alligators (only on son saw one). We did see loads of bird, dragonflies, an interesting swamp spider, and learn tons about the trees and overall ecosystem of the swamp. My teen boys liked it also. We had a wonderful lunch at Carbos (about 10 min away—fresh boiled crawfish, shrimp, fried fish, okra, hush puppies—extremely local and reasonably priced). I would highly recommend.

This tour group is incredible - I've lived in New Orleans for a few years now and this is the only organization I trust to lead an environmentally conscious tour. We love learning from Dean and his extensive knowledge of the swamp. His passion for this ecosystem is inspiring. I highly highly recommend that you go with this swamp tour and feel good about spending your money in a way that benefits conservation of the swamp!

The swamp tour and our guide were excellent, especially learning about the history of the area, seeing birds and animals that inhabit the swamp. I rained for a few days before our tour that raised the water level and submerged areas that were previously dry. It was a beautiful late afternoon and the sunset heightened the colors of our surroundings. Highly recommend this tour.

The swamp is a magical place! Did you know cypress trees can be hollow and filled with wildlife of all sorts, for these are their protective homes, and that pileated woodpeckers are essential to the ecosystem in order to create the doors and windows for access? Did you know that crawfish are at the base of the food pyramid of the swamp and thus necessary for a functioning food web? Did you know that the Louisiana swamp is home to otters, wild boar, beavers, lions, bobcat, panthers, bear, and turtles? Did you know that the wetlands and swamps are essential for hurricane protection, including of NOLA? We saw ancient cypress draped elegantly in moss and marked darkly with the ever-changing waterline, bright white solitary herons sitting watchfully on the shoreline around every bend, a majestic conference of birds including herons and egrets nesting in treetops for the evening, large jumping silvery fish attempting to race the boat or maybe reach the clouds, an exquisite praying mantis attempting to navigate our boat, tiny vocal frogs, an alligator silently gliding through the carpet of watery greenery and the end-splash of one making a jump, and a family of dragonflies dancing playfully just above our heads and eating mosquitoes (of which none bit us)! We felt the softly warm evening of August, light cool rain, and exhilarating rush of wind through our hair when the boat picked up speed. We heard the evening chirps and croaks of a watery vegetated world teeming with life. We smelled the heavy perfume of green and draping flowers. Did you know these sacred places are endangered and disappearing?

We had a great tour with Al! He found us at the meeting place on time and took us down to the boat launch. He included the kids on our tour and was good about making sure the other family understood what he was talking about since they were Hungarian but spoke some English. I specifically wanted to go on this tour because it seemed more ecological vs. tossing marshmallows at alligators (I mean, alligators shouldn’t be eating marshmallows, right?).
We were out on the water for about 2 hours, checking out lots of different areas. We saw lots of turtiles and alligators, egrets, blue heron, a cormorant and some vultures. We got to tie up and get out of the boat to see some giant cypress trees and heard an owl in the distance. The weather was excellent but the boat is not covered so I’d recommend a hat and/or sunscreen in general. It was especially nice to get out of New Orleans for the day and see more of the state!

I’m a photographer and I booked a private outing with Last Wilderness Swamp Tours. I was already looking forward to it and I ended up enjoying it so much more!!! Our tour guide Al was knowledgeable about EVERYTHING, even down to the binomial nomenclature of all of the trees and birds!!! He was completely adept at navigating the swamp, he had a GREAT eye for seeing wildlife that I could have easily missed. He’s a naturalist. He absolutely made this tour worthwhile. It was easygoing, completely enjoyable, and totally worth it. I will make another booking next time I’m in the area.

Silvia was a pleasure to work with and did her best to accommodate everyone. She has a great personality and was very friendly. My tour guide was Al. He is very knowledgeable and has a passion for the swamp, animals, and wilderness like I've never seen. Even in January, we saw an owl, and a few bald eagles. One of them flew above us in the boat for a long time and kept watching us as if he was guiding us around the swamp, which was truly exceptional. I like that this tour doesn't use an airboat because they are loud, disturb the wildlife, and harm the waterways. This tour is small and personable and allows you to get up close and personal with nature. Highly recommend.

We booked onto an afternoon tour, the booking experience was really easy, Silvia was very helpful. Al was a great guide, very informative and great at spotting wildlife! We loved the area being explored and saw alligators, bald eagles, nutria, frogs, fishing spiders, lizards, herons and countless other birds. We were caught in a major downpour and Al made sure we were safe and was constantly checking forecasts for lightning to make sure we weren’t in any danger. Would highly recommend this tour if you want something smaller and more personal than other tours available.

This family-run business is exceptional. From their responsiveness to their expertise, this swamp tour was the absolute highlight of our trip. Al, our knowledgeable and engaging guide, was a delight. The entire family is committed to excellence as well as are true Cajuns from the area. Al spotted all sorts of wildlife, so we saw nearly a dozen types of birds, alligators and even an owl who was on a branch hunting. We watched the owl for nearly 10 minutes from a mere 20 feet away. It was captivating! Al knew what to look for, he shared so much information about ecology, trees and the habitat. It was the best choice and we highly recommend this company as your choice for a swamp tour!

Hi Silvia. I am trying to plan a trip for friends and also family for some time in the fall. I've tried to locate you on a map. One map search pointed out a location on the east bank of the River, another on the west but closer to White Castle. I'm hoping to put together an all day event and map it out well ahead of time (car route, driving/ferry time, restaurants, etc.. Would you tell me how to locate your place of business where we would meet for the tour?

Hello! I apologize for the confusion. We do not advertise our address because we do not have a physical location. We meet at a local gas station called Dales Trading Post - 33115 Hwy 75 Plaquemine LA 70764. You will follow us from there to the Bayou Sorrel boat landing where we will begin our swamp tour.
Please give me a text, call, or email when you’re ready to book the tour. Thanks!
