LOVE this museum.

First of all, I love free things. Second, I love history. This place is clean, well preserved, informational, & interesting. We spent a LOT of time here, considering it’s relatively small size.

Worth finding

This is operated by the state of Louisiana and needs more signs to help you find it. The guide was so nice and took her time to show all the exhibits to everyone who came. The museum is only open Thurs., Fri., and Sat. 10am to 3pm.

Great Tour - Worth the Stop

We stopped here on a roadtrip from Wisconsin and were not disappointed. Catharine gave a great tour of the museum! It was very informative and we really enjoyed all the historical artifacts!

A nice little surprise as a side trip

We were in Shreveport for a concert. While we were in town we visited the Bonnie and Clyde Museum, (see it's own review). On the way back to our hotel, we got a bit lost and stumbled upon this small museum.
What an nice surprise! The elderly lady who was our tour guide is a fantastic person. She explained all of the difficulties and troubles the Harmony Society faced. Walked us through the museum and the remaining buildings and well.
This is a short ride off the interstate and well worth the effort to see. The education and example of how our forefathers survived is a revelation. Take a moment and see how lived in the 1830's.

Worth the short trip off the Interstate

We enjoyed our tour of the Germantown Colony! A sweet older woman was our guide on the property and she made it fun for our five year old by letting her pull water from a well and ringing a bell. Love that you can actually go in and see how they had lived 200 years ago. Worth the trip into Minden to see it. We even got to see a few baby deer hanging out on the property.

Nice piece of history
Jul 2017 • Couples
The wife and I were touring our home state and found this place to visit on Trip Advisor. It is a nice little bit of history of German immigrants who came here to start a religious commune . Some of the original buildings are still intact. Lots of artifacts from their everyday life.
It is a state park and it was free to visit. I recommend stopping in for a visit. We have a great tour guide!

Wonderful Visit
Apr 2017 • Couples
Amazing that some of the building are original, and on their original site.

Museum area has some great personal items from settlers, and the buildings and equipment are definitely worth the time.

A most personable and knowledgeable lady led us on a tour. She certainly enhanced our experience.

The complex does not charge, but donations are welcome and appreciated as support from the state is in question. Certainly this site deserves to be preserved.

Open Saturday fyi. Truly a gem. Just follow the signs and you'll get here. Free admission and free guided tours. It was really interesting. Fully working restrooms if that's important to you.

Short visit
Sep 2016 • Family
It talks 15 minutes from the highway and 45 minutes for the free tour. It's a nice glimpse of rural America.
