The Old Goat Lighthouse!

That's what we called it. I spent many weekends as a child anchored off the sandy shores just East of this lighthouse, back in the 60's. My brother and I would visit it often, by small sailboat or powered Dinghy. Once by land, we got in a lot of trouble, but that is a long story. For the curious, there... More

One of the prettiest rivers in LA (if not #1). A slow ride up or down with friends is hard to beat. The lighthouse is historic but needs work (underway). Several places to dock. Not much fuel on the river and pricey so gas up before

has to be seen by boat to get close. Someone built a house at the end of the main road. Makes it hard to get good photos of a beautiful light house because they closed off the end of the road close to the lake.....If you have a boat it's all good for taking closeup pictures.

I love lighthouses and I go out to this area of the lake often and you can see the lighthouse but are unable to access it. The is a museum in town with history but I would love to get a closer look at it without having to get in a boat!

The lighthouse is not accessible by land anymore. They are talking about building one, but the lake keeps eroding the coast and I doubt they ever will. There is a spot that you can take pictures (great sunset location). Go to the very end of lake road to the coast guard station. Go west as far as you possibly can.... More

I like lighthouses, so it would have been nice to see it up close, to climb to the top, to see the view, and get a sense of what it must have been like to be a keeper or keeper's assistant in the early days. Sadly, and presumably due to vandalism, the light station's grounds are off limits with arrest... More

There currently isn't any easy way to get to the lighthouse by land. What you CAN do is drive down past the maritime museum along a long road with a one lane wooden bridge past a bar and a boat launch to a burned down skeleton of some old bait shop or restaurant. You can see the lighthouse to the... More

We tried driving to the lighthouse but the road was torn up. Road equipment was still on site. Call before trying to get out there and don't try it unless you're in a truck!

If you are there it is worth seeing, but I wouldn't make a trip just for that. Madisonville is worth the trip, but not just the lighthouse.
