Overpriced and horrible set of rental clubs
Dec 2019
The course was a nice layout, but when I called to ask about rental clubs, I was told that the clubs were top of the line Titleist. These clubs were worse than the clubs you would find in someone's garbage can. They were extremely old and each of the woods had more dents in them than a car wreck. I talked to the pro shop after and asked for just a minimal partial refund for these horrible clubs and they basically ignored me. I was very respectful with my request and that got me nowhere. I then left a message for the head pro and he never bothered to respond.

Fun, easy to get on
Nov 2019
Not a bad layout. Easy to get on. A little pricey for the condition. Pro shop folks were friendly and helpful. Water on the course is not too bad.

A Fun Day of Golf
Sep 2018 • Friends
I try to play this course at least once per month with girlfriends. Contraband Bayou Golf Course at L’Auberge is beautifully designed and well maintained, and it incorporates local waterways, vegetation, and wildlife. In fact, last time we played we had to wait for a family of deer to cross the fairway before we tees off on one hole! The waterfowl are beautiful and look closely at the water and you may see an alligator. I enjoy the pace of play and the courtesy of clubhouse employees. The carts are preloaded with water and ice towels which is very much needed in the Southwen Louisiana climate. The carts also utilize technology to assist with estimating distance to the pin. In addition, the restrooms on the course are clean and air conditioned, which is greatly appreciated during summer months in South Louisiana I highly recommend this course for a great day of golf.

Great Golf Course
May 2018
From the service to the greens... Just a great time! plenty of shade, cold beer and a nice laid back course. thought it was reasonable $100.00 for the game cheaper if you stay at hotel and go late afternoon.

Very fun, beautiful, and forgiving course
Mar 2018
Lots of water, lots of grass and bushes and flowers and trees. But the water isn't too dangerous, nor are the trees. Bunkers are pretty protective, but more than compensated for by wide open fairways. Not much in the way of hills; this is pretty flat country in Louisiana, but some challenging greens. All in all a very nice course, though I'd bet it's hot and humid in the summer months!

Great Shape
Feb 2018 • Friends
Course was in great shape for winter and all the rain we've had in the gulf coast area. Winter rates are reasonable too. Staff very friendly and cart girls made their rounds. Only complaint is Marshall doesn't manage slow play.....at all. If youre not going to manage it then no back to back 5somes. What should be a 4 4.5 hour round is 5 consistently for this course. Too long!!!! And if you have to try their bloody mary on the course. Excellent!!!!!!

12 of us and we were treated like 200
May 2017 • Friends
First off, we have a group of golfers who make regular weekend trips around the State of Texas and beyond and it's extremely important to us that golf is the priority for the weekend. We contacted several other Resorts around Lake Charles first and none of them were anywhere near as helpful nor as willing to block off tee times several months in advance for our plucky band of 12.

That said - when we arrived our hearts sank as the course had sanded and we'd been given no advanced notice, but after talking to the pro shop and been given quite a thorough answer, out we went onto a course that is a blast to play - not overly difficult but will eat your lunch in a second if you're not paying attention. The course was in great condition, 1 round on Friday, 2 rounds on Saturday and Sunday and unfortunately our third round on Sunday was called off due to severe weather.

I'm a firm believer that when you go to a resort course and you're paying a premium to play - the course and staff should be little better than a regular course and honestly - the staff at Contraband could teach most of the premiere courses back home in Austin a thing or two about customer service, Scott and Casey in the Pro Shop were fantastic about keeping us on track and moving things around to accommodate us when there had been a slight mix up in tee times, Randy the starter was excellent and extremely friendly and kudos have to go out to Kirsten and especially Taylor - the beverage cart girls who provided awesome service and made every effort to ensure that we were well taken care of all 4 days. Even though we were only a group of 12 - they treated our event as if we were 200 - great customer service from start to finish.

Pace of play was excellent, even on the weekends, the greens quickly absorbed the sand - and much to our surprise were very quick and smooth on Thursday despite being sanded only the night before. It does get hot so make sure you're hydrated - insects were not an issue for us - and thankfully we did finally get to see one of the courses Gators on Sunday morning.

A brief 3 min walk from L'Auberge, you can store your clubs at the clubhouse safely overnight if you're playing multiple days - sandwiches, breakfast tacos and the usual fare on sale in the proshop.

Great course, exceptional staff - we will certainly be back!

decent
Nov 2016 • Family
The course is decent but a little overpriced. We were there at a bad time of year for the course to be in tip top shape, but the greens were smooth and fast and the traps were well maintained.

My first time golfing this course. Although it was hot, the course had plenty of water bottles iced down with wet cloths. Top of the line golf carts. We had a great time. The hit the pool and casino.
