Hiking paradise
Jun 2020 • Couples
Car parking spaces are available on site free of charge. It's a beautiful reservoir with a dam. Good for hiking. Scenic views. Spectacular lake and landscape. Do bring a windbreaker and hat. Sunscreen is recommended.

Bluer than Blue. Or is it green?

Well, no matter. It's spectacular to see. The Alps in the backdrop and the flowers in the foreground make for wonderful photos. You can hike along or above the dam- and beyond, and also do some ziplining if you're inclined. Be sure to have a meal at Clem and Fabs- outstanding!

Journey is the destination and destination is heaven
Oct 2018 • Family
Journey is the destination and destination is heaven, not exaggerating as we really loved the drive and both the Moiry lake and Glacier areas. The road and views were awesome as we left city of Sierre and drove up the mountain on Anniviers road then drove back down into the valley of Saint Jean before starting again an uphill drive to finally reach the Lake Moiry, a water reservoir. This is an amazingly beautiful place.

Bluish water of Moiry lake gives a magical feeling and a walk on Dam's wall provides awesome views of the valley and the mountains, you being in the middle of both. There are some lovely hiking options available here, a restaurant (was closed may be the season was over) and free of charge parking. It started to snow the day we visited this place and everything got even more beautiful.

If you drive further and cross the lake you will reach the Châteaupré lake and Moiry glacier. Again a very beautiful place. There as well a free of charge parking was available. You should definitely visit this place and enjoy every moment of driving in this area.

Breathtaking views, mountains, glacier, lake, hikes and... restaurant!
Aug 2018
A true gem in terms of excursions/hikes close to Grimentz, in the Val d'Anniviers. One can drive (at least in the summer) to the dam and park there. From there, a great variety of hikes, up along the glacier, around the aquamarine blue lake or up the surrounding mountains, with truly incredible views. After the hike, do stop at "Chez Clem's & Fab's", a little restaurant with a large confortable terrace, the best "croutes au fromage" (with brown bread and apple slices) you will ever eat, deserts to make up for all calories lost hiking and great wines from the region. Friendly, efficient service. We shall definitely return!

Favourite Place

This is one of my absolute favourite places to go hiking be it a gentle stroll round the tour du lac or a climb up to the Cabanne wig incredible views of the glacier this place is always stunning. There are loads of trails to or from the lake including to Grimentz, Sorebois and Bendolla and the bus service is great (particularly the tourist bus in summer!)

We did not exactly visit the place, I only saw it from the top of Zinal ski slope, but looks impressive and well worth visiting in warmer times of year when tours become available.

An ideal walking area

This Barrage is well worth the drive from the Rhone Valley, as in all Alpine valleys the roads are narrow and can be a little daunting if you are not used to such roads. However when you drive out of the tunnel and up onto the barrage (or dam) you instantly realise that it was worth the effort to get here.
However, continue driving alongside the man made lake until you come to the end of the road, park your car in the parking area and then walk up to the glacier. It's steep and narrow in parts and involves a a bit of a scramble over rocks but again well worth the effort.
