Captain Danny took me out for a great day of kayak fishing for reds (January). He is the pioneer of this kind of fishing in Grand Isle and knows exactly what to do! We fishing several spots before finding the right place to really nail them. Fun day with lots of great conversation and learning for me. Would definitely do it again - thanks Danny.

We took a pontoon boat ride in the area around Grand Isle, which included the old civil war fort, Fort Livingston, and especially Queen Beth Island, where thousands of Pelicans and other birds nest at this time of year. The tour, led by Captain Kristan Wray, was terrific. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and took her time at every stop along the tour. She was even able to talk at length about the effects of the oil industry on the local economy and environment. We spent a good deal of time watching the birds on the island and also watching the interaction between the birds out on the open water and the dolphins in the area. I cannot say enough positive things about this tour. For people who want the see the area without specifically going fishing, this is a great alternative.

My husband's family has lived on the Island since 1782. For health reasons, he can no longer manage a boat. However, he wanted his family to experience the Island from the water. Captain Kristen Wray took my granddaughter, daughter and me on a outstanding 2.5 hour excursion through the local waterways. She was so personable and competent. More importantly, she was well-informed and knowledgeable about the history, ecology, geology, and biology of the island and surrounding marshlands. My granddaughter is six and was engaged (except when she took a powernap) during the entire trip. She particularly liked the rookery (pelicans) where she saw many chicks and juveniles. She also enjoyed the dolphins. I highly recommend this as a family outing well worth the time and money. WAY TO GO CAPTAIN KRISTIN!!!

Captain Danny was such a pleasure to spend the day with. Smart as all heck, friendly, patient and an all around lovely man. Professional, courteous, and really went the extra mile to make sure we had a variety of fishing. Add in the \ stunning scenery, and it made for a perfect fishing trip.

Highly recommend Calmwater Charters, and can't wait to come back to Grand Isle.

We booked calmwater tours at 10:00 am tour out of Bridgeside Marina. Our guide was really interesting and informative . She had just the right amount of facts and fiction to weave interesting stories about Grand Isle and the islands around it. We were taken to Queen Bess the rookery for our state bird-- the brown pelican and saw baby pelicans in their nest, white pelicans, roseate spoonbills, gull all as bottle nosed dolphin followed us playing in our wake. The 2 hours was just long enough and the boat was comfortable, roomy, and safe feeling. We are from the area and we learned a lot about the history of the islands and coastal restoration and wildlife efforts. this is a great trip for young and old!! We were able to purchase snacks and goodies and souvenirs at the marina store and use their bathroom facilities!!!
Note: We tried to make this tour one day and 1/2 hour into it a storm came up blocking our way . We had to turn back. We were reimbursed our money and invited to go back./ We did go back the next day. thank you calmwaters.

My brother and I lost our mom a few months ago, and one of her biggest fears was he and I growing apart after she was gone. So we came up with this fishing trip, and I must say, it was perfect! Capt. Wray is just an awesome, laid back guy, that knows a lot about life, knows how to fish, and put us on huge redfish (and some bonus sharks!) It was a great 3 hours, and we would recommend him!!
